Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I could be considering a weeks trip in April......
I havent been on a ski hol for about 8 years and dont know where the seasons are at the moment nor where they start or finish (cue panic regarding Climate Change!)
So where is best around April time? Or is it still pretty much good all round?
Thanks

The earlier the better, is the general rule-of-thumb.
Most big Alpine stations close around mid- to late-Apr. A handful go into early-May.
Head high.
Pick mostly from France or Switzerland.
Val Thorens, Val d'Isere, Tignes and Zermatt should be top of your list.
Good luck.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I would wait till much nearer the time. If this April is anything like last April there'll be a lot of snow around at lower altitudes too. But it's not a busy time, and you could get some good deals; there are no arguments I can think of for booking now. Earlier certainly likely to be better than later, but maybe wait till Easter is over?

We're regulars for the second week of Easter at Val Thorens. We've often always had a few inches of new snow just before we've arrived, during the week or just as we were leaving. VT is at 2300m and our observation is that snow cover is continuous from this level upwards. It's always been skiable, but slushy towards the bottom, to Meribel and Courchevel. Not ventured down to Les Menuires though.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Agree with pam w - we often get a big dump of snow here (Isere) in April. Doesn't last long, but it's very nice for a few days. I'd look at the forecasts and book late.
