Poster: A snowHead

I know summer is a long way off, but the family & I are off to Austria in August.
Does anyone know if any glaciers will be open in August so i can sneak off for a day? Stay in St Johann, so the drive to Kaprun or Hintertux is not too bad if they are open. Any ideas?

afcbtim, Kaprun (ie Kitzsteinhorn) was open in September when I was there about 3 years ago. I was on my own and 3 hours was pushing my boredom threshold

afcbtim, Loads of glaciers open, Hintertux, Kaprun, Stubai, Pitztal, that's what I can think of off the top of my head. Why don't you do more summer skiing - it's great fun! You actually get to see loads of peeps who can ski relly well skiing, unlike winter!

afcbtim, Hintertux is open (they claim) 365 days a year. I have skied there in August.
If you aren't taking your own equipment, there is a hire shop at the top of the second gondola which saves you carrying kit all the way from the bottom.

monster77, Welcome to snowHeads. Not too sure what you are rolling your eyes at
There are three gondolas. There are hire shops at the base, at the top of the first gondola (which was closed in August along with everything else at that level) and at the top of the second gondola (which was open). To get to the summer skiing you have to go up a third gondola. There is nothing at the top of that.
