Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anyone been skiing in Japan http://www.powder.tv/ Only just heard of this today . . .

Yep. Mrs A is Japanese, and last time we were visiting her folks in winter we managed to fit in a couple of days in Yuzawa in the Japanese Alps.

- This is a couple of hours from Tokyo by train. It's relatively low altitude, and gets a load of rather heavy, wet snow. The town has a load of hot springs around it, and the hotel we stayed at had the natural spring water piped up to its rooftop bath house.

The best skiing in Japan is in Hokkaido, where the snow's a lot lighter and you get mountains of powder (by all accounts: we haven't made it up there yet)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Wow sounds ok doesn't it? Might have to look into that one when we move back to Australia . . .

The last two Sundays we've skied in glorious weather on pretty good snow; lower slopes 140cm, upper 225cm(Zao, northern Honshu). Just had a nice storm come through with about 30cm of new snow.
As with Europe we have a lot less snow than last year. For the first time in 103yrs the city of Niigata on The Japan Sea coast recorded no snow for the month of Jan and the ski areas in that prefecture which recorded 565cm of snow depth last year are showing less than half of that. Here on the Pacific side we also had no snow in Jan but woke up yesterday to 6cm, causing chaos as many drivers had already taken off their snow tires.
When you get back to Aus you'll find that some of your countrymen prefer the no-jet-lag Japanese skiing experience, especially now with the Sydney-Sapporo(Hokkaido) link. You will also find the ubiquitous seasonal workers/skibums from your part of the world in the major resorts, providing a somewhat more international atmosphere......fewer stares when the hairy gaijin enter the hot springs snowHead
