Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Advice/recommendations for 3 YO lessons in La Tania Xmas 2012

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello,

We're skiing this Christmas in La Tania and are looking to hear of your experiences. We have a 3YO and 7YO. The 7YO will do lesson/lunch/lesson all week and the 3Yo will just do Lesson and lunch with his elder sister then chalet play in the afternoon. Online, ESF seem to be the only school to take 3 year olds, do you know otherwise (Magic or NextGeneration)?

Thanks,
Bruce

You could try contacting the ski schools to ask, but I expect their websites are correct.

To be honest I think expecting a 3 year old to enjoy an all-morning lesson and lunch every day is probably a bit much. I'd be looking for something that is mostly playing on skis with regular breaks to do other things. I expect the other ski schools start at age 4 because there is a huge difference at that age in their ability to listen and follow instructions, and the adult:child ratios needed will be different. I know that companies like Espirit that specialise in family holidays put child carers as well as instructors out on the slope for the very young ones; I'd make sure that whoever you book has something like this in place.

I would certainly expect the 7 year old would be put in a different group to the 3 year old, so he's unlikely to have a familiar face to keep him company.

I'm not trying to put you off - only you know what your child is able and happy to do - but just pointing out some of the potential pitfalls so you can plan and avoid them.

3 is very young to do anything other than play in the snow, but I suspect that is what you mean. The 7 year old should be a half decent skier by the end of the week - the 3 year old certainly wouldn't be able to keep up with them.

Bruce_Cookham, If your youngest is anything like my youngest (who is now 9) then they will be desperate to learn some ski ing, even at age 3. My youngest did ESF at age 3 and in what was really poor weather all week had a good week of fun in the ESF snow garden. Because of the weather by the end of the week many of the kids had given up and she was in a small group of 3. During the middle of the week we agreed with her that we would watch for a bit and take photos which kept her interest up as well.

The snow garden in La Tania is quite well sheltered as well and you can ski past it on the blue slope to have a quick look to see how things are going on, without being spotted.

Hope you have a great week, we arrive in La Tania for new year, so here's hoping for good snow like last year.

There's a list of all the La Tania ski instruction possibilities here

We'll have our 3 year old there in early Feb, and probably going with the ESF.

That's exactly what ours did back in March. Aged 2.5.

Thanks to all respondents.
Thanks for the links, I will call the schools as the websites are not clear.
The responses match our experience from skiing last year with Esprit (which was great on the whole). The kids are happy to pootle about but love the skiing. It was local schools that were happy to give a 3YO a try but Esprit wouldn't entertain the idea, which is a shame.
Looking forward to skiing as always, Cheers.
