Poster: A snowHead

I bought boots at the end of last season went got feet measured and boot liners heat moulded at what is supposedly a good shop!! Boots seemed fine in shop ok at home when i tried them for a few hours but when i went skiing for the day they were so uncomfortable that i gave up after 3 hours in agony!!
I was going to take boots back to shop next day but i fell at work and tore the ligaments in my ankle and injured my knee so didn't get back to shop for nearly 2 months when i got back to shop they went through all the measuring again and remoulded the boot liner and said boots are fine for me!
I've now just been for my first day skiing in months as i was advised to leave it till ankle and knee had fully recovered but once again i gave up in pain after a couple of hours as the boots were so uncomfortable i couldn't even concentrate on skiing i've never had this problem with new boots before so not sure what to do now.
Can anyone give me advice on what to try next it's now been 10 months since i got the boots and i've only managed to suffer them for a few hours!!

chaotic, there could be any one of a number of things happening
1] boot soo small, unlikely as you would have been in agony in the shop
2] boot too big, possible, but you say it was a reputable boot shop
3] there is a problem with your foot that is causing the pain when skiing, probable.
a few questions....where abouts is the pain coming from? side of foot, underneath, on top. what size of shoes do you buy and what size is the boot[metric boot size please]? this is not an accurate way of of telling if they are too small / big but it will give an idea of if they could be in the ball park and of how much pressure you can withstand on your feet.
Do you have footbeds / moulded or off the shelf ?
Did the shop do anything other than mould the liners? did they add lifts of pads anywhere.
Can you do a deep full squat? [feet shoulder width apart, squat down and sit on your calf muscles [without letting your heel leave the floor], can you get all the way down ] this gives an indication of how much flex you have in your calf muscles and can be related to foot problems in the boot.
how much skiing have you done? and how much do you do each year?
that should gie a bit more of an idea as to what could be going on, but as always it is impossible to say exactly without seeing your feet and the boots in front of me
hope we can shed some light on this one for you

Hi CEM Thanks for response!
The pain is worst at my toes and over top of my foot but also have pain at my lower shin/ankle..
I usually wear size UK6 shoes my snowboard boots are Salomon size 25.5 which were measured for me and fit fine with no problems The ski boots are Head Edge 10.7 in size 24.5 which seemed great in the shop.
The shop didn't give me footbeds which i'm starting to think could be the problem they measured my feet let me try a few boots but advised me to go with these which they then heat moulded for me.The fitter did try one pad in the boots but the one he tried created a pressure point on the ball of my foot and he seemed to think the boot fitted better without it.
Can do a full deep squat although i get slight pain in my ankle and lower shin when i do it but i did injure my ankle ligaments badly which gives me occasional problems.
Have been skiing for about 5 years in total 2 years when i was younger then work got in the way and i finally got back to skiing about 3 years ago.
Usually manage 1-2 weeks holiday away per year I go to local dryslopes or Xscape about 3-4 times a month then when theres snow in scotland i usually swap the dryslope sessions fo 4-5 full days a month although sometimes i board sometimes i ski.
Hope this makes sense somehow

Hi CEM, Thanks for the advice it's much appreciated you've stopped me panicking about having to go and buy another pair of boots which i was starting to think might be my only option!!!
I'm based in Edinburgh but i'm through in Glasgow quite often and will hopefully be spending a fair bit of time at Glenshee or Cairngorm in the next couple of months so if you know of any boot fitters in any of these areas please let me know!!

If you had said your boots were Nordica then all would have been self explanatory!
