Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ferries in stormy weather

I'd never given it a second thought until yesterday, but what's the done thing if a ferry crossing is cancelled? I have an overnight crossing from Portsmouth next week. The next crossing after that would be the next day (and quite possibly fully booked).

Should I hang around for the next one or cut my losses and divert to Eurotunnel? If I do so, can I expect compensation from the ferry company or to be able to make a holiday insurance claim?

Yours naively, Sproggski

some ferry companies have an arrangement with the tunnel that the tunnel will take all passengers that the ferries would have. all you need to do is show your ferry ticket and you get on the train. it's all dependent on the ferry company though, so you're best giving them a call to check. i reckon you'll be ok though as all we're getting next week is lots of cold weather and tonnes and tonnes of snow*

Very Happy

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It's unlikely that any company running out of Portsmouth will have an arrangement with the tunnel as they're so far apart. Best bet is to ring before you set off to make sure they're running so you can make alternative arrangments before leaving home. Ferry t&c's usually just guarantee to get you there, not when, and they'd put you on the next available boat. If you choose to do something else because it's more convenient I doubt if your insurance would cover you. But then shoogly is right....we're in for a spot of cold calm weather down here in the south so you shouldn't have any problems anyway.

Many thanks, one of those where common sense is the correct answer.
