Wouldn't it be awful if they transported all that snow, only for it be too warm and it were rained on........especially as it looks like it might be a bit touch and go for temps/rain this Friday/Saturday.

Temperatures are forecast to drop though next week so the snow should stay in good condition once there, with hopefully some additional falling

I was doing a season in St Anton in 92/93 when a similar thing happend and the race was moved from Kitzbuel to St Anton.

when we was on the coach to go back to salzburg we pass through kitzbuel they were putting snow into a big bag with a jcb then a helicopter was moving over the run then dumping it, then they were piste bashing it! would't want to be going tothe ski welt this week! as there was hardly any snow when we left! never been so warm on a ski hoilday in jan!

Here is a photo album how they transfer the snow and prepare the piste. At this moment, it is 90% sure that they are able to hold the race.

Looking at that slide just brings it home how bad the situation really is. Middle of Jan and looking across the valley at the Kitzbüheler Horn you can see green fields with a scattering of snow at the top. That's just sad. They should call the race off in my opinion. Holding it under these circumstances is simply not facing up to facts.

Mike Lawrie, and it is getting worse. It is just after midnight and it is +2.5C on the top of the Hahnenkamm. Thursday and Friday will also be mild.

On the radio they said it was a money game. The cost of shipping in the snow (probably part funded by insurers) is less than the loss of profit & costs.
