Poster: A snowHead

I have just booked a 10 day trip to Banff in March. It's been 2 years since my last visit there. I heard that smoking is now banned in all public places. Can anyone confirm this to be the case or not.
Thanks.

I was there a couple of years ago and without doubt the pubs and restuarants were the smokiest I have ever been in anywhere in the world with very few no smoking areas and a complete lack of consideration towards diners and non smokers. ( the place and the skiing were great apart from this).
I am considering a trip there this year so if smoking is banned thats a big plus.
I was in Ireland this year and it was fantastic to have a night out and not stink of smoke afterwards which is even more important when you are using the same jacket for skiing and socialising (obviously I wasnt skiing in Ireland).
Ken I'm sorry if your question is because you smoke but it was realy getting to me by the end of the trip.
Stephen.

Yes, it was banned last August. But I'm sure you'll still be catered for .. whether in a smoking room, or a covered, heated patio.
If its anything like the ban in Ireland, the bar / restaurant owners realise that a lot of their smoking customers will stay at home if they are not catered for ... so a lot have set up covered and heated beer gardens ..

I think that I right in saying that British Columbia banned smoking in bars a few years ago and the last time that I was in Whistler it didnt seem to be affecting the pub trade at all.I have to say that I am with Stephen on this one

Thanks Sonya, this is fine by me, however, I am now in somewhat of dilema. We are taking our daughter who will be 11 months in March and have also paid for her Grandmother who has to become our ski nanny for the week. She is a heavy smoker (when not in the room with Grace I hasten to add). At what point do I spring this on her
Russell, I'm there from the 16th for 10 days

Ken Lingwood, I always find threats seem to work!
Shes getting a free holiday out of it so she cant complain that much and feel free to use emotional blackmail such as
"it would be such a shame if you're not around to see Grace turn 18/ get married etc "
Worked on my grandparents!

Ken Lingwood, uh-oh !! Cranky nanny for 10 days so !! Ah no, I'm sure it will all work out for the best (once you get the long non-smoking flight out of the way!!)
If you were going to a resort that didnt have a smoking ban, then I'm sure you would have been worried taking your daughter out to public places, and Granny would have had to step out into the cold to avoid lighting up in front of the baby
But as its a non-smoking resort, business will not want to lose out, so I'm sure there are plenty of restaurents etc which have smoking rooms or heated outdoor terraces ... so Granny can smoke in peace while chatting away to other smokers, and baby is not breathing second hand smoke!
Sounds like it could be better than going somewhere without the ban !!

Russell,
I stayed at the Banff International, last year: good accomodation, handy for the town centre (just over the road from the supermarket) AND I got a free room upgrade. You'll also be right next door to Cathy at the Ptarmy.
