Although moving away from its origins as a small farming village, Val d’Isere has lost none of its alpine charm, and is known as one of the best ski resorts in the world. Val d’Isere and Tigne share the Espace Killy Area, which boosts 300km of pisted runs making it a favourite with the best skiers and boarders across the world, yet still suiting all abilities. Val d’Isere’s raised location on the French-Italian boarder provides exceptional snowfall year in year out.
‘Au centre-ville’ stone and wooden clad chalets line the main street. Shops, restaurants, bars, cinemas, clubs provide a lively French après ski programme. Every Thursday during the season, the traffic is stopped on the main street to give way to street music, live music, parades, and snow sculptures etc, matched by a local market on Mondays selling savoir produce.
Val d’Isere also includes a number of smaller mountain hamlets, Le Cret, Le Joseray, Le Chatelard, La Legettaz, Le Laisinant, Le Daille and Le Fornet.
Le Cret is one of the older areas of Val d’Isere it is located in between Le Daille and the centre of town, tucked into the mountain side for some exceptional views over the mountains. Le Cret contains old farm buildings, which have been now converted into large chalets and are ideal for larger groups/families looking to separate themselves slightly from the, in comparison, busy centre-ville.
Le Joseray, Le Chatelard, La Legettaz located at the bottom of the Manchet Valley, 5 minutes from the centre of town, link through the tunnel leading from the main roundabout. These three hamlets are located close together, providing both chalet and apartment accommodation, with the added convenience of being able to ski to your door via the Santons run.
Le Daille is located after the mountain tunnels just before arriving in the centre of Val d’Isere. Le Daille lacks the charm other areas in Val d’Isere have consisting of a number of high rise buildings, providing a number of self-catered apartments. However, only being 2 minutes from lifts to the whole of the Espace Killy, and a 5 minute bus journey from the centre of town, Le Daille provides the whole experience at “good value for money”. If your apartment over looks the piste, come December you will have front row tickets to the Criterium de le Premier Neige.
Le Fornet, located 5 kms pass the centre of Val d’Isere, is a perfect alpine village ignored by many holiday makers. The Chalets in le Fornet are a dreamy alpine retreat, yet this is reflected in the higher prices. Let Fornet provides some of the best off piste skiing on the doorstep, yet should only be talked with skill and mountain experience.
Val D’Isere is a personal favourite providing everything one could wish for in a ski resort, great snow, amazing variety of runs, great food, lively après-ski and alpine charm…. a dream!!
There are more reports on ski resorts on my website, it is in the early stages but there are more to come, http://people.bath.ac.uk/tjd20

lovethepiste, hmmm, what you say is all well and good, but to be honest the information that you give on your website would be of little interest/priority to me compared to a number of other things.
The first things that I would want to know about a resort would include:
the extent and variability of skiing - who it is best for,
a description of some of the best runs,
a description of the lift structure,
some "not to be missed" spots for views etc.
names of ski schools/guides,
the names of good restaurants (on piste and in town),
apres ski activities,
Children's activities in resort,
suitability for non-skiers,
distance to nearest airports,
transfer options/companies,
availability of short-break accommodation
to behonest, the information you give on your website is pretty much irrelevant to me - sorry .

Lovethepiste Always good to see a new web site but you must improve your grammar and make sure your facts are correct.
Regarding Tignes (check spelling in your drop down) you quote ;
'Tignes is not the resort for beginners, there are no local long winding green runs, which are found in neighbouring Val D’Isere, and the teaching from ski schools in Tignes is limited. Tignes is not the top resort for families, and only really suites people who ski hard and go to bed early. Having said this, the skiing is some of the best in the world, and with easy access to Val D’Isere, Tignes can been seen as a cheaper option'.
Tignes does have some Green runs, check out the piste map. If you look on other threads? on this site you will find that the skiing back into Val D for begineers is very limited. There are blue runs back into Tignes Le Lac & Tignes Val Claret which are suitable for begineers at the end of the day.
Having worked in both Val D & Tignes i much prefer Tignes for begineers. It does not give much of a 'feel good factor' to ride down a lift for your last run of your holiday.
Why is the teaching from Tignes ski schools limited?
We have the ESF, EV2, 333, Black Cats, Snowfun, BASS, Alliance etc as our main ski schools, offering all types of tuition, and specialist courses run by Ali Ross (Surley one of the pioneers of British skiing), Snoworks (Run by Phil Smith) & other specialist schools.
Whatever type of tuition you want you can find in Tignes.
Your later comments about not suitable for families, cheaper option etc show you have not been here lately.

"Val d’Isere has lost none of its alpine charm"
That is merely your opinion. I don't, personally, think it has any charm whatsoever. That however is merely my opinion.
Did the "Val de Sloane Square" tourist office write this for you?

David Murdoch,
I agree with you , but it probably hasn't actually lost very much.

T Bar, yeah if you start with none and you lose none, you've still got none.
(you've also still got more than the average US resort, but that's a different story... )

lovethepiste, it would probably be best to wait until your website is actually finished before posting details of it here. None of your links appear to work & there is very little actual information there, besides google ads. And all the above comments on grammar, spelling and accuracy are very relevant. And why call your site Off Piste when it appears to have little if any content to do with skiing off piste? Sorry for all this negativity, but if you post something like that here for comment you will get criticism.
