Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Meribel in March

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey all,

Not long back from my first weeks skiing (Andorra) and already looking to get another week in before the season is over. Have been looking on the net for some good deals and Meribel in March is working out quite cheap. We would be going sometime from March 11 to 17 and we were wondering would the snow still be alright in Meribel at that time? In comparison to surrounding resorts it seems quite low down.

Thanks

You will be fine, it's a nice time of year to be there as the weather can be really hot one minute, blizzard conditions the next. Seems to be a much more relaxed attitude on the mountain too as all school holidays etc are over and people are just having a good time..

Was out last March (early) and almost got snowed in...also out in April and pretty similar conditions all week! Just book it, you won't have a problem as it is the central resort of the 3 Valleys, altitude is irrelevant as you will spend most of your time ski-ing elsewhere...just make sure you end your day at the Rond Point for beers in the late afternoon sun! Smile

thedavman, I'd recommend you also have a look at Motteratt - not as much nightlife, but is slightly cheaper than Meribel, and being higher I think is easier to get to and from and snow usually better, should it be poor. Meribel IMO can be badly cut up and icy if snow poor as it is such a crossover point.

PS welcome to snowHead

I agree with Boris as an alternative, but having done a season in Meribel, the resort centre has a bit more to offer at the end of the day than Mottaret. Depends how much that bothers you.

Sticking with the ski theme though, as I said before, you are only ever crossing through Meribel-Mottaret on the way to other areas - Courchevel/Les Menuires/Saint Martin/Val Thorens etc..Boris is completely right, the runs leading back into Meribel get mashed and swept off due to the throughput of skiers on the way to other places...

Book up anyway, it's a good area! Smile

In that case should we purchase a 3 Valleys lift pass or just a Meribel lift pass?

Do you have to travel far for the skiing? Id rather spend more and have doorstep skiing that have alot of daily travelling.

I'd go for the 3V pass - if only as is easy to stray into other areas

Motterrat, I'd say everything is close to slopes. pretty much ski in/out. Meribel is pretty similar, although as it is a bigger resort there are areas where there is a short walk

Boris, Go for it mate. Mottaret (and a 3V pass) in March - you will not regret it, particularly if you are more interested in skiing than partying.

I think most people on here are "more interested in skiing than partying" mate, I find Mottaret to be a bit toytown personally, but at the end of the day its where you sleep and great if you don't mind queuing for The Platieres lift or the Pas du Lac... Top spot with regard to connecting to other valleys.

I do love a beer too, but I assumed that just came with the territory Very Happy !
