kingston, Welcome to snowHeads. Just tape it up with some gaffa tape cut to size and replace as necessary

The black extra strength duck tape is great and you can hardly see it on dark clothing. I have a fair few crampon holes in my gear and it's always done the trick.

I would suggest black cordura Nylon, it's very damage resistant, you can get it from places that provide materials for camping and outdoor type projects, off the top of my head I think one is called Pennine Outdoor, another is Point North, if you do an internet search you will I'm sure find that both do mail/internet orders, look for it in the waterproof heavyweight fabric sections.
Note that it is best to seal the cut edges of cordura nylon with a very hot knife as it can be prone to fraying, however it is incredibly damage resistant, sometimes it is called ballistic nylon for this very reason

kingston, I second the Cordura option, my SOS salopettes look much better with their red reinforcing and have several marks but no cuts after several years use. I bought mine from a mail order company in Cheshire somewhere.
BTW "duck" tape is really DUCT tape and was originally and still is used for sealing airconditioning ducting. But I'm sure you all knew that.

I skied for my entire ski life in a pair of black TOG24 salopettes that were listed as containing KEVLAR. I scoffed at the time, but when I replaced them last year due to broken zips, press-studs, and the waist having mysteriously shrunk half a foot, I inspected them and there was no cuts or tears whatsoever. New pair were cut on the 2nd day out

May i suggest looking on ebay for a cheap 2nd hand pair of motorcycle trousers/jacket of cordura material. I.e. size doesn't matter so you could place a very low winning bid. Then when said goods arrive, take your best scissors and carefully cut sections to repair your beloved sallopettes.
or just take the items too the seamstress and ask her to be efficient with the cuts (so you can use the rest as say elbow and shoulder pads on your favourite cardigan)

Thanks for all the advice peeps, somehow i wont be following the tape system but will be looking into the cordura material. Had a search alst ngith for some on ebay but all i found for it was parachute material
So ill keep my eye out for some cheap trousers/jackets on ebay instead.
Another option i was thinking about would be carbon fibre in its cloth form or even kevlar in its fabric form.
Is the cordura fabric the same sort of material that can be found in web strapping?

You know it makes sense.

kingston, cordura is used a lot in parachute containers (the rucksack looking thing on a skydiver's back). Whereabouts in the country are you because a parachute rigger could also sort you out with a repair or just material.

Do not consider kevlar, it requires very specialist handeling, it also blunts sissors or knife blades really really rapidly
Try Pennine Outdoor
or Pointnorth look in the coated Nylon section for cordura
They will sell you 1m lengths which should be more than enough, they may even sell 0.5 m lengths which should still be enough
