Hi all,
Posted this the other day in the equipment/reviews forum but me thinks there are too many skiers in there and no boarders... typical!!!!
Anyhow...
Got one of those discount board / bindings / boots sets off of ebay and although the board and bindings seem cool, the boots are a little on the 'Frankenstein' side – I'm sure the mafia could use them instead of 'concrete shoes' if you get my drift?
I've decided to keep the board and the bindings (£170 for the B n B is pretty good in my book) but I'm gonna shufty the boots off on ebay and buy some better ones. the question is....
... what is a good budget boot?
I'm looking at Burton Tributes (£75 from www.sailandski.co.uk) or Burton Moto boots (about £120 I believe). I've also seen some Head 360s for £70 on ebay that look like they'll be okay. Can anyone suggest any other decent boots for about that money?
Basically, the ones I've got feel too thick all around the foot (especially the heel) meaning I can't get the boot into the binding properly - there's just too much 'mass'! I have narrow heels anyway and having a boot with a big heel just seemed odd.
I've just got my missus some Burton Emeralds and they are sweet and she says they feel snug as anything without them being too bulky, even with the thick liners that those boots carry. Does anyone know if the bloke's boots are similar (thin heel to fit binding better) or if women's boots are designed completely differently?
Suggestions are most welcome. I know boots are purely a personal thing due to everyone's feet being vastly different (I have wide size 11s) but if anyone has got boots they feel are reliable and pretty cheap to get hold of, then let me know and I'll check them out on my boot shopping day on Saturday.

a mate of mine has a pair of DC's & he really rates them. If you have narrow heels, whatever boot you get, throw out the insole in the boot and replace it with a proper footbed (I have superfeet footbeds in my boots and the really support your heel) as it makes a big difference

Salomon Dialogue is a good entry level boot retailing at about 140 smackers. However different boots suit different feet so you need to take a trip to a shop and ry on at least 3 boots to get a best feel for the right one.

Gonna talke a trip to Ellis Brigham at Xscape in MK on Saturday so I'll suss the boots out there before going on the web and finding a better deal. EB seem really expensive.
Those DCs look cool though.

I think it also depends on the bindings as well. For example, my Salomon boots fit SO nicely into my Salomon SP4 bindings. It might be worth taking your set up into a shop and trying the boots on that way.

Richie, that was my intention. I think the boots I have are just a bit gash but the bindings seem okay. I don't reckon I'll have any probs finding a boot to fit - fingers crossed!

UPDATE:
Seen some boots on the web from Atomic called Tremor Boa and they come in bright YELLOW, 'Kill Bill' - style. They look awesome, just like the Asics trainers old Uma wears, and even have a BOA lace system.
£120 rapidly feels like an easy amount to spend!!

I say for the money the moto's are alright, what bindings/board are you using and what type of riding do you do?

Got a cheap Merrier Keeno board (cost me about £100) and some aluminium bindings that seem okay. Don't know what type of riding I do, as I've never been before.

ah ok, well until you know what you will ride like then I would get an entry level boot from burton, saloman or 32 and figure out where you want to go with it. Carving/piste, free riding, jibbing about or maybe even the pipe? It all makes a difference to what boot you would go for, freestyle tends to be a bit softer so you can tweak things a bit and recover from dodgy landings.
I started off with a normal old saloman board and didn't care about bindings/boots. A few years later and I know exactly what I want from board/bindings and boots and feel when something is wrong/ don't like. For learning I never noticed anything wrong as it was all so new, eventually some parts of boarding appeal more to you and you kind of lean towards the relevant equipment.

I am a newish boarder (seven short trips) and always seem to get loads of trouble with boots, from bruising and grazing on my shins and calf to the good old battered toes. I now have my own Flow 163 board and bindings but have borrowied a pair of average boots.
I think it is time to get some decent boots now. At the moment i like carving/piste with the intention of getting into some off piste (with the necessary safety measures/guide etc.). Does anyone have any suggestions for a particulat boot that is not too expensive? Any suggestions would be appreciated

Will let you know in the morning when I receive my Burton Motos - found some for 310 cheaper than TSA from a shop in Lancaster. Also, picked up a Burton Space Sack (for both mine and my missus' boards) for just £30 - The bargains just keep on coming!!!
