Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Helmet Straps

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
As some of you know, a very dear friend returned from the states a week or so ago with part of my Christmas pressie snowHead (this particular present was returned from it's world tour in time Laughing )
Opening a wine box rolling eyes on Christmas morning, then carrier bag after carrier bag until I was in a carrier bag drift, and there appeared a giro 10 helmet in Sepia (unobtainable - apparantly - in Europe Little Angel )

Now - to my point rolling eyes on the 'crash' thread, someone has written:
Quote:
I had a helmet on but my parents told me to have it on as tight as possible, which i now know you DONT do...

is this correct? I mean, I know not so tight as to almost strangle you, but surely you don't want it loose, either?

So what is the rule of thumb? Is it the same as a riding helmet... (brain clicks back over a number of years...) to be able to have two fingers between strap and under chin... or something else?

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person
Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person
That would've been me, basically the strap was under my chin and no space between the chin and the helmet strap, people told me afterwards that the helmet should move a little, whether this is true i dont know... but i'd like to know just to clarify too.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Michelle, I always have mine tight enough to know it's there but not so tight that it's uncomfortable. A little bit of play shouldn't hurt as long as the helmet itself is a good fit.

As little slack as possible.

It will work loose over a few days skiing, but you will have to continually tighten the strap.

Having it flapping so that it can ride over your chin is next to useless.

But *please* - take out all the slack. It has saved *my* life, without wishing to sound dramatic.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It should be tight enough to stay under your chin but loose enough so you don't notice it. If the helmet fits will then it shouldn't move on your head anyway.

+ don't forget nylon absorbs moisture, so the strap fit may well be different at the end of a day next to sweaty skin than at the start of it.
