Poster: A snowHead

Ive been reading a couple of posts on the forum and have wondered, may seem as a stupid question but! Is it good to make your boots as tight as humanely possible and to just ignore the pain as long as blood can still flow... or to leave a bit of room for your feet to move ever so slightly? Also i tend to wear knee-high socks, good to go for different type? etc..

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Timmaah, in my opinion, it's best to have your boots finger tight - you should be able to close the buckle with one finger. If it takes much more than that, then they are too tight.
As for socks - thinner is better.

why would you want your boots as tight as humanly possible? i don't know about you but when i go skiing i like to enjoy doing it instead of being bugged by the constant pain coming from my legs
if you buy ski socks they are knee high so that's not a problem

Well thats the thing, i dont feel pain while i ski.. Ive skied with water filled blisters on my shins that needed to be dealt with at a hospital for two days, immensely painful but i enjoy skiing that much that i skiied with them anyway... So i guess in that sense pain isnt an issue for me

Timmaah, I am with WTFH. Most of the time unless in really tricky heavy snow I ski with my boots clipped pretty loosely. Providing your heels are staying down when you ankle flex. And yes - thin socks - there is no argument on that except from people who bought the wrong sized boots.

With correctly fitted boots and/or a custom insole the fit with be firm enough just to close the boot. To racket up the buckles is compensating and can be avoided IME

Ok, i digged my boots out... fastened them.. and! What i found is, i usually tighten my boots as much as possible, in other words: if the locks are unclicked easy thats a sign to go up one level.
So anyway, i put them on and they fit fine.. theres 1 finger space at the front, only problem is that i can lift my hood up in the ski boot by a bit, in other words the front part of my foot can be fastened, but the back part if i want to and use some force can lift up a bit. I imagine this isnt good... anyway to fix it perhaps? (i was wearing thin socks which went up to my shin).

I wear Spyder stocking socks, they are about as thick as thick womens tights, hold them up and you can see though them. I don't have enough room in my boots for normal ski socks, but they are comfy, finger tight and I can still wiggle my tootsies.

Well i skiied with them today, they were a bit tight today but a couple of fixes pretty much fixed it, i think i might get a mould done later on... I remember last year in obertauern one of my feet would literally overheat... god that was annoying. Thin socks seemed to have done the trick though!
