Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

"Alan Peru" - an odd name but a fine new restaurant in Chamonix

Well we had a very pleasant evening on Wednesday in "Alan Peru".

They must be thanked for diluting the omnipresent traditional Savoyard choices elsewhere by giving you an an inventive and eclectic choice from a fusion menu ranging through Thai, Lebanese and modern European. Not a tartiflette to be seen, mercifully.

I started with a delightful pumpkin and sweet potato soup with hints of coconut and lime and rounded off with a delicious and very well produced "Crying Tiger" salad (that's a beef if you didn't know). Sophie had an excellent selection of mezzes. Only Nick felt hungry enough to have a pudding and a very satisfying (for him anyway) creme brulee (flavoured IIRC with cinnamon and lime). House red very drinkable and reasonably priced.

Service was charming, completely fluent in French and English although I suspect of Scandinavian origin.

Hopefully they'll maintain these high standards in the heights of the season and be an excellent addition to that neck of the Chamonix woods in between rue Dr Piccard and the Aiguille du Midi cable (and only a 5 minute walk from our fine apartments).

Good luck to them.

Ooooh, could be tempted to Chamonix yet. The above sounds just perfect. DM, was it reasonable value ?

Frosty the Snowman, I think (checks wallet) €110 for four. Not bad really. Two bottle of wine between 3, 2 pints of strong continental lager, 4 main courses, one starter, on dessert and two plates of chunky chips to start off with.
