Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Avoriaz restricting ticket sales over Christmas / New Year

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
With the exception of season tickets, Avoriaz is restricting the number of lift tickets for any given day to 25,000. The purpose of this is to restrict the impact of other resorts bussing people in. Full Portes du Soleil tickets aren't on sale at the moment.

Certainly for walk-up punters (i.e. the friends staying with us at the moment) it's proving hard to buy lift tickets for more than a day (with the exception of having just bought weekend tickets). Tickets for the next day go on sale at 15:30 - so we're currently into a cycle of buying tickets for the next day at the end of skiing.

If you're coming to the area over Christmas / New Year and are staying with a chalet operator / tour operator then I'd suggest checking the lift ticket situation when you arrive. If you're travelling independently then you need to be organised.

I'm sure tour operators and local chalets will be operating on different rules to walk up punters and I'd appreciate any hints from local chalet owners if they have any more information about how to get hold of lift tickets for longer periods.

This sounds like a vision of skiing in future decades as snowlines rise and snow becomes relatively scarcer Sad

IncogSkiSno - not good, I know, but forewarned is forearmed.

I must admit that I'm going to be far from happy if tour operators get first dibs at the tickets and our friends end up going without.

PhillipStanton, I hate to say, but I think it's a pretty good idea. Means the slopes hopefully won't be hideously overpopulated and may even extend the life of the snow. I'm slightly surprised there isn't some form of locals' priority/dispensation other than the season tickets...one would have thought that would be fair.

This does make sense, really, as the place can become hideous otherwise. I am wondering what they will be doing in Les Saisies, where most pistes and lifts have opened today (though the station is only at 1600 and they must have been working very hard). There's little or nothing open in the lower Arly valley resorts and, being selfish, I think there comes a time for resorts to look after the guests that chose them in the first place! We have friends staying in our apartment this week (we are still in UK) and I certainly hope they will be able to ski without having a whole lot of refugees from other resorts crowding them out. The TOs who bus people in so they won't have to pay out their snow guarantees are a right pain.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Don't get me wrong David Murdoch, I also think it's a good idea - it's the (apparent) lack of local's priority that's concerning.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

PhillipStanton, That does seems somewhat unfair to me too! If I owned out there and didn't ski enough to warrant a season pass I would be well unhappy to be refused a lift pass in favour of some yahoo from Ville le Grand, f'rinstance.
