Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi,
I have been skiiing for a couple of years now and i am heading to whistler in January and want to get stuck into a bit of off piste skiiing. I have just got my bonus number and therefore decided i need some serious new gear to replace my knackered bonfire stuff. Been looking at jackets (c£300) and decided i like the look, fit and qaulity of the peak performance and Eider Kendall XCR ranges but......... none of my buddies have any experience of these brands in use. Has anyone out there used these brands and have any thoughts?
Any input greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

Colour is obviously the key criteria. I had always thought that red is the fastest but i do not want to look (at least in terms of clothing if not ability!) like a ski instructor.

Tommo, I had real problems with a zip and velcro on a top-of range Eider jacket, had to threaten S&R with legal action to get it fixed. I have just switched to Arcteryx... Mountain Hardwear has off-piste cred too...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I had great service from Eider when I had to send a jacket back to France after I wrecked it.
MH are very good in my view. Mammut are cool.

Peak's kit seems to be of an excellent standard. Mrs. Zammo has Peak snow pants which not only dedliver from a technical perspective, but, in a rather fetching pink, and with a really very decent cut, offer some stand-out-on-the-piste-ness as well.
Obviously this won't help you too much as a) you appear to be a bloke and b) you want a jacket, not trousers but I thought I'd add my 2p worth anyway.

I would say that red jackets make you ski better. Black also. I have heard a lot of good things about orange too.
But not yellow.

You'l have to stretch another £100 for an Arc'teryx but they're flawless jackets. I have an XL Stingray which I'm flogging as it was too big but other than that, excellent. I now have a very red jacket and it definitely makes me ski better

I have an Arc'Teryx Alpha SV and love it. Very light, well fitted, not overladen with pockets. Oh, and red

I've had a pair of RED Peak XCR pants for three seasons now. Absolutely brilliant, light weight, nice and warm, waterproof. and RED.
GREAT!!

You know it makes sense.

I've spent the last month agonising over which jacket to get, for similar use to yourself. I've finally decided on the Killy Tip Top (pathetic name!), second was the Schoffel Explosive. I loved the style and cut of the Peak Performance, but could not be conviced by the thermal credentials. If you go with it, order from europe and save at least £40-50. You'd better be good to wear red, but black definitely makes you ski faster!!!!!!

I've got Peak Performance hard shell gear. I would not buy it again. The jacket isn't waterproof enough, and a zip broke on the salopettes soon after buying them. The dealer wasn't interested in exchanging the item for me.
Arc'Teryx looks like good gear to me.
