Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Poster: A snowHead
Hi All
My family and I will be headed to the snow fields for the first time. Will be travelling from Australia to Avioraz and prefer not to have to carry all our ski clothing all the way from oz.....is it possible to hire clothing?? Maybe Geneva??

I've never heard of clothing hire in France (there may be I've just never seen it). You might be better buying cheap kit in Morzine on route, as it has a wide range of ski clothing shops.

snowdad, don't think I've ever heard a sH talking about clothing hire in France . . . it is possible in the uk. But to be brutal, you're going to need some free time and access to local knowledge to find clothing at what most of us would call a 'reasonable' cost in resort. I'm not saying sHs are cheap . . . but the non-medical members wink seem to have a preference for wax-on-snow time rather than the latest labels. I'm not sure what to recommend but why are you so against carrying what you'll spend most of your time wearing? You can reduce the load by wearing modern wicking fibre clothing that's light, easily hand-washed and quick drying. Also to reduce the bulk by using thinner layered clothing and a shell rather than heavy jackets and salopettes. Things like gloves can be reduced to a pair of good quality fleece gloves and a wind/waterproof overglove/mitt. It is possible to travel light . . . but I've yet to achieve it Confused I wish you all the best luck.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

No, I've not seen any clothing hire in France either though we have an excellent local shop in Hampshire which hires out clothing. Not like New Zealand; I arrived in Ruapehu in sandals and summer stuff and was on the slopes fully kitted out in no time.
