Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Passo Tonale... need some advice...

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi there all who read this....
I'm off to Passo for new year for a couple of weeks... by all accounts the piste there isn't too challenging... but it's high up and there will be lots of snow so it's not all bad..
Whilst I'm there I was hoping to get a few days skiing in at Madonna di Campaglia on the area lift pass or indeed some of the other resorts on the same pass. I've been trying to find out if there is a bus service which runs between the 2 resorts... can anyone help ??
thanks

JonnyRocket, Yes there is a bus which is free with your lift pass. I never went on it but I think the journey is about an hour.

Passo Tonale is a good beginner/intermediate resort and is now joined to nearby Ponte di Legno by a new bubble. There is a glacier at Tonale so you should have snow. The black from the top of the glacier bubble is a nice run.

Maddona is a good idea as I think with 2 weeks at Tonale you will be a bit bored. Madonna's runs are about on a par with Tonale but there is slightly more piste (125Km compared with 100 Km).

Warning - Madonna is a lot lower than Tonale so check the conditions before you go.

And welcome to snowheads.

Thanks Sage.. useful advice..
one thing I read was that there are a couple of resorts between Passo and Madonna... Marrileva is one, and I'm sure I read that their lifts were linked into Madonna.. and Marrileva is only half an hour away. It's over a mile off the main route between Madonna and Passo though - or seems to be from what I can tell from a map I found.
Oh.. thanks for the welcome !

JohnnyRocket, Sage is right, you're quite likely to do all of Passo before the first week is out, so a couple of trips are well worth it. The long wooded blue down to Ponte di Legno is worth doing - there's a great pizza place there, but I can't remember the name. Wrap up warm for an early season trip to Passo, the wind can be bitter. Oh, and check out the old gun emplacement on the glacier side. Welcome to 'heads Toofy Grin

JonnyRocket, from what I remember there are a couple of nice cruisey reds in Passo Tonale on the right hand side as you look up from the village which are great for practicing fast carving technique!

Also the hot chocolate at one of the cafe's at the bottom is possibly the most chocolatey I've ever tasted. Spoons were virtually standing up in it on their own!

JonnyRocket, Madonna is linked to Marilleva and Folgarida, which are before Madonna on the road up, the 125Km I quoted covers these areas.

JonnyRocket, Echo what's been said. We really liked Passo (1 20+ year skier and 1 3rd year) - the village is compact (one long road really) with a scattering of restaurants, couple of bars, shops etc) - not really the place for wild night life. As said, it can be VERY chilly - we had one day of -17c temperatures, mostly down to wind chill, so take some face protection. If you are going with a package operator, they may offer you the day trip to Madonna - this is much more expensive than making your own way, so be aware. Have a good time - if you get blue skies and sunshine, the wide cruising pistes are great fun snowHead

Been to Tonale twice. Nice tree lined run down to Ponte di Ligno. Some lovely tree skiing down in Ponte as well. Think there should be a new Gondola to bring you back up to Tonale. We had to use the bus last year.

Would recommend a trip to Madonna, about 1 hour. We got a free bus last year and surprisingly it was the rep that organised it for us!!!
