Two World Cup ski jumping events scheduled to take place in the northern Czech ski resort of Harrachov on the 9th and 10th December were cancelled on Friday due to warm weather and lack of snow. The unusually warm temperatures have prevented artificial snow from being created to cover the hill. The FIS has announced there will not be replacement events
Austria has proposed three venues as alternative sites for the World Cup races that have been called off in Switzerland and France because of warm weather. Sölden, Flachau and Reiteralm all now have sufficient snow to host races, said an Austrian ski federation spokesman. The next men’s race is to be a super combined next Sunday at Reiteralm, Austria. The race will match a super G (instead of a downhill) with a one-run slalom....
At Beaver Creek (Colorado), Bode Miller (US) narrowly avoided a high-speed collision with a course worker on Friday and went on to win his first World Cup downhill race in two years. His time down the Birds of Prey course was 1:46.15. A gate judge lost his footing on an icy surface and slid across Miller’s path two gates into the race. Miller didn’t slow down or even flinch, apparently. Aksel Svindal (Norway) won the super combined with a total time of 2:06.74. Sweden’s Andre Myhrer took first place in the slalom with a total time of 1:48.60. The giant slalom was won by Italian Massimiliano Blardone with a combined time of 2:27.88.
Maria Riesch of Germany won the first women's World Cup downhill of the Alpine ski season with a time of 1:51.31 at Lake Louise in Alberta on Friday. This is the first time she has had a World Cup win in two years, after a series of knee injuries. American Lindsey Kildow won the second women's World Cup downhill race on Saturday with a time of 1:48.84, and Renate Goetschl (Austria) won the super G with a time of 1:20.86.
Norwegian Ole Einar Bjoerndalen had his 65th career win in Oestersund (Sweden) on Saturday, when he came first in the World Cup biathlon. He covered the 10k distance, plus the penalty loop for misfiring once in the shooting range, in 8:30.0. He is a four-time World Cup champion in biathlon, and has five Olympic golds, as well as six world titles.
In Lillehamer (Norway) on Saturday, Simon Amman led a 1-2 finish for Switzerland in a World Cup ski jumping competition to take the overall lead after two competitions. He jumped 128.5 and 138 metres, making 265.9 points. He is a former double Olympic champion.

Ole Einer also won the 20k individual biathlon on Thursday, despite a two minute penalty for missing two targets, and the pursuit biathlon event on Sunday. These, in addition to having won the first cross country event the previous weekend. Clearly a man on top skiing form.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Congratulations must also go to Chemmy Alcott for three top 15 finishes in her first three races of the season. Definitely a very positive start to the season! If she keeps improving at the rate she has been, maybe we'll get that Olympic funding back

I watch the races on Austrian TV and the commentators were really impressed with Chemmy's form. At the points where the skiers speed was measured, Chemmy had one of the highest.

The British Snowboard team had a handy start; Dan Wakeham got up to 11th against most of the top internationals before the comp in Saas Fee was cancelled, and Zoe Gillings qualified first and nailed third in the first boardercross race of the season. The younger riders got well into the top ten in halfpipe against some good European competition.
