Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Final question on the Missions-REALLY

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I had a call from Telemark-Pyrenees this afernoon, telling me they no longer had a pair of these in stock in 178's,(despite them being on the website, and still on there when Achilles ordered them a day later) but they did have a brand new rental pair that I could have instead. Apparently they say the construction is identical, but has a protective mesh (?) on the topsheet to prevent scratching. I have also swapped the Axial bindings for Look ones, which I know is no big deal, as they are essentially the same. Comments please.

The protective mesh will add weight to the ski however it should prolong the life of the top sheet.

With most rental skis, the graphics displayed and the basic shape of the ski is the same, however they do tend to have thicker edges and bases, along with a larger sidewall, just so that as he ski is being rented and used constantly throughout the season, the life of the ski is prolonged as it takes longer to wear.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and it could be totally different with this pair of Missions but that's what I've come across myself, working as a rental monkey.

Helen Beaumont, sorry I can't answer your question but if the changes are as Jono, suggests, will this not effect the 'feel' of the ski in some way? I know Julian really enjoyed them at the PSB but if I remember where these not hired? Could be that without knowing you could end up buying exactly the same ski/construction that he tried out.

If you want non rental, try these guys http://www.soundskis.co.uk/ (I brought Sarah's skis from them and shipping was not a problem) who have advertised 178s including S12Ti bindings for £425

Best of luck

Helen Beaumont, they were having to order in a pair of 178s in specially for me, after checking with Scott that the order would be met. I'll take your post as a warning to keep a heads-up on this one.

SHello, yes, they were rented, and I suppose it can only make the skis harder wearing, and perhaps last longer. So perhaps a bit heavier. Looks like these skis are the hottest thing on the piste this year, and in seriously short supply.

SHello, they were hired, but Jutta stocks "normal" skis not the special rental ones.

Helen Beaumont, when I spoke to them, they had run out of all 178s including, rental versions, I think, so they had to check if they could get anything at all for me.

I know. A bit worried about it now. They said they were exactly the same apart from the mesh on the topsheet.

If brand new means "never before drilled for bindings" then I really wouldn't worry about it.

achilles, OK, that's cleared that up then, Apparently they had been trying to contact me but the email bounced or something. And they called my home no instead of my mobile, so maybe that's why. They had kept the rental version to one side for me. Happy skiing Nick.
