Poster: A snowHead

David Murdoch,
You're right, though, and in general I agree. There are extreme cases, though. For example, my wife was "off" in her boots by 2.5 degrees on one foot, and 3.5 on the other. As a result, there's no way she could get onto and off her edges properly. She was held back as a result. When she got properly aligned, her skiing changed, especially as her habitual compensations dropped from her skiing. I see this in many folks. It takes time to lose those compensations, and at first we may feel that we have a setback. But, the end result is quite good.

This will come as a surprise to many of you, but the Ron Lemaster list of causal factors to consider go, in this order:
• Equipment
• Morphological factors
• Psychological factors
• Tactics
• Technique
Clearly the caveat of applies not to beginners.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

What's the difference? (Sorry about 'can of worms' question).

Frosty the Snowman, causal, not casual!
rob@rar, Easier demonstrated. But I think I did a previous reply in that how not to carve thread.

Who cares as long as you're having fun! I feel like I'm "carving" and that's good enough for me

uktrailmonster,
Yes, you can get hung up on all this. To me, carving is on the ski at the beginning and end of the turn....but I never think its precious and don't care one way or another if someone has another definition. I'll know a good turn and a bad one from my POV.

It's all horses for courses, as I've said before, it depends if you ski to get from one cafe to another, or wish to take it up as a sport, and want to improve.

I've just taken my old version B2s to an 88 degree edge angle as they were skidding out a little on the icey stuff last year. It'll be interesting to see how they do in Jan. I still have a long way to go on the technical side though, sometimes I can flow through a turn and other times I skid out halfway though - shows that the problem lies with my consistency.
