Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Garmisch World Cup. Advice needed......

Hi all,

I'm very excited to have just booked hotel and flights down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for next Feb. The intention is to chill, ski all week and then take in our very first World Cup Events before coming back on the Monday.

I know there's Mens downhill on Sat 24th and Slalom on Sun 25th. I've found the Ski Garmisch web site but am not sure what to do about tickets. It looks like you print, then fill in a form and post it off rather than just buying them on-line.

Does anyone out there have "proper experience" of doing this, rather than me just stumbling about?

Are the VIP tickets good value or are there better places to watch the race from?

My parents (now retired skiers) watched the downhill a couple of years ago in Garmisch while I was skiing and from memory they just turned up on the day and bought the tickets - however if you're really keen to watch the race, buying in advance would be advisable. I'll get on to them and see what they have to say about it.

I also skied the week leading up to the race and it was great to be on the same hill as all the competitors during practice - on memorable event was seeing a member of the German team reach the bottom of the run, decide the queue wasn't for him, propelled himself UP the hill x-country style, caught up a T-bar with a space and joined the sole occupant.

Thanks alecl, Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm really keen to take in a much as possible as it's not everyday you get the chance!
