wow - well we were treated to a really exciting and fun race last night. Super combined is amazing to watch as you get to see all the slalomers doing downhill, and their instability, loss of line, flapping arms, standing up tall all help you to realise just how fast and scary downhill really is. then you get to watch all the downhillers doing slalom! people coming out of the course all over the place; falls; straddles; line errors .... really good clean fun.
However some of the guys are really good at both, so congrats to those in the top 5 particularly, and comiserations to Bennie Raich who made an inexplicable line error in the slalom. Bode skied brilliantly in the downhill section, seemed to be back to his best; and was useless in the slalom, only getting to about the 5th gate. Back seat from the get-go; arms flapping etc.
So, another race tonight (downhill), but I doubt it will be as fun to watch.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

There must be smiles and embarrassment in the GB camp in equal measurement today. Smiles from Noel Baxter who scores his first WC points with a very creditable 28th position, and perhaps a red-faced Finlay Mickel who was beaten in the downhill section by the slalom specialist Baxter!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Could be good medicine for Finlay, he's got a great start number - 7 - for tonights race..... Fingers crossed!
PS Noel's always had the full range of skills, however, he's chosen to concentrate on the tech disciplines.
I hope he can stick with the broader based programme, I didn't see the race but it seems that he's not lost his touch in the speed events......

jcjc, He was actually all over the place and looking very much like a slalom skier going faster than he was comfortable with! However, Finlay made a complete hash of things, and skied the worst I've seen him ski for a long time. He was ddefensive, opening up, arms flapping, getting in the back seat etc. Not the finlay we saw last year. Apparently he had a bad fall in training, so that probably accounts for it. I'm sure he'll get his confidence back.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Cheers Charlotte, I heard it was pretty gnarly as they say over there....
Be interesting for Noel at Reiteralm, that's their local hill.
Hopefully Nic will have some good interviews and insights on Sunday Morning.

Saw a bit of it, thought it was pretty good until the power here went off just after Didier Cuche,,,,, what about the way that guy skis,? He's so engaged in each turn I expect him to explode as he starts to release the pressure but he just slingshots into the next turn..... soooo in tune with his equipment. Peter Fill too, he is so much sharper than last year. I missed Bode but I can imagine!
Now that I've seen Fin's run I understand what you mean, not fully involved in the action unfortunatly.

jcjc, No, but I'm sure it was just the aftermath of a big crash. He'll get his confidence and agression back before too long, I'm positive. ye s- love Didier Cuche!
