Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where could we be talking about? Well, the snow lasts until well into April, and there's some very interesting architecture. And they have ambitious plans for future lifts and runs. Mind you, the terrain is more relaxed than challenging. It has to be CLICK HERE, courtesy of Saturday's Times (with a nice map).

I think NBTs been there (or nearby). I'd be interested to know the definition of "interesting skiing" Smile

Fair point. I used the adjective "interesting", as in 'different'. The article suggests it's a nice place for a stress-free simple family holiday, but the prices on the second page look a bit high.

I only mentioned it because my wife would like us to go to Norway/Scandinavia as a family, but I'm a little concerned that the skiing could be a let down.

The biggest skiing in Norway is actually way north, above the Arctic Circle port of Narvik. There are some good photos on this site.. It has a 1500m mountain. Then there's Riksgransen, just a few miles east in Sweden, which is more of a ski resort, with superior snow reliablity. It's stunning up there in late spring, with skiing under the midnight sun, Lappland wilderness, the Norwegian fjords, etc.

I thought the cost of food n booze pretty much rules out all of Scandinavia doesn't it?
Correct me if I'm wrong of course.

I think you're right Mark; one of my colleagues has just come back from Geilo in Norway & said it was prohibitively expensive. £8 for a beer, £24 for a bottle of cheap house plonk....need I go on?

He enjoyed the skiing, but as it was his first ever trip, he has no experience of the Alps etc to compare it to

Ever wondered why Scandinavians are 'always' pissed up on holiday?

If your beer cost suddenly dropped 60-80% what would you do?

This is much less true of Sweden. We had a little family trip to Stockholm a couple of years back and found it all (including food) great value for money. Certainly cheaper than London, where I live.
