Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

North America -conditions right now/Thanksgiving

Ok I've got 3 weeks booked off over Xmas period which were destined to be spent on a flight toSFO and a stay in Tahoe area. But opening has been pushed back while Canada and Colorado seem to be opening early. What's the lowdown on the real conditions in the latter two places - e.g Whistler opening day reports 18/11 appreciated as I may look at switching the plans?

Not really interested in what resort marketing people say about how many runs are open with man made but how much cover is going on the rocks & scrub offpiste.

Cheers

fatbob, I'll try to remember to keep you posted about conditions in Tahoe - while it may appear that the openings have been pushed back due to lack of snow, the resorts do try to predict an opening day 6 months in advance so often don't get it right. Squaw likes to advertise mid-November openings because they want to be open for skiing Thanksgiving weekend, but unfortunately we can't control the weather! Having said that, usually by Xmas there is a good base - we take in 1/3 of our revenue over Xmas week!

But to be snow sure I'd suggest Colorado - three weeks ago at Loveland the base was coming along nicely, and they've had more snow since! Why don't you pop over to Epic and ask there? snowHead

pollittcl,

Thanks

I was there last Xmas & New Year - first week at Kirkwood was good if a little wet & heavy at times, New Year at Squaw was obviously totally washed out but then by the end of the week was superb even if Red Dog trees were still a little patchy so I have confidence. Its just hard to sit looking at webcam pictures of nothing when people are waist deep at Whistler. SFO flights are also significantly cheaper than DEN or YVR so it is a factor.
