Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

AlTom, It always snows a lot here in April

Richard E, Still waiting to get it back from the garage - been there 2 weeks - trouble getting the new shocks (they say). told me they would be working on it yesterday, but of course it is LG, where time stands still .... Can't wait to drive it with all the beefed up suspension though. Also they're checking out the engine (will feel better about those messges afterwards). I was going too fast down the hill for my pal to keep up - it must be better on the corners than I thought!! Puzzled

easiski, Hi Easiski, Finally registered myself on snowheads. Im the girl you kindly let interview you at hotel Melezes a few weeks ago. Remember me? Was just wondering if you I could use some of the photos you have posted on here in my project. Particularly liked the one you posted at the beginning of the season, of the snow cannons working on a completely bare hillside! Thanks in advance, Very Happy

Not good weather today as it was snowing - buckets for a while. Freshies (well a bit tracked) all over the place. Nice light powder in the Combe du Thuit red and also at the side of the Gours - did the left side gully - very narrow and thus interesting this year. It's really amazing how the profiles change from year to year. Out with the Zags tomorrow! Very Happy It cleared up at around 16.30 so a nice tea with many of the gang on the Touring hotel terrace. snowskisnow and all his mob are here as are many of my regulars - in fact this week I'm not teaching anyone I haven't taught at least twice before!!! It's so cool to have kids here aged 10 who started with me when they were 5. Several of my regular families are also here but not having lessons this year for various reasons - too late booking mostly, but they're all joining in.

My cold has turned out to be bronchitis, but hopefully I'll be feeling 100% before the E SB. sorry no photos, forgot camera, but it's in my pocket ready for tomorrow. Very Happy Very Happy More snow forecast for tomorrow, but then nicer for later in the week. Very Happy

easiski, sorry to hear about the bronchitis. Sad

Deeply envious every time I read your snow reports. Still trying to convince the other half that a return trip this year would be a good idea for both of us. I am working on the possibilities of the PSB is it usually at L2A?

Hope the Chevy is repaired soon. wink

Richard E, It's always here, because this is a) where the largest lift-served glacier in Europe is, and b) where the Mondial du Ski takes place. Even so, conditions were a bit sketchy last October, but we still had a smashing time. I trust the good relation of El Nino, La Nina will bring us tons of autumn snow this year. Book now! wink

Hello all. It's getting really exciting reading this thread everyday-only 4 more sleeps to go Very Happy

I was wondering if anyone can help-We're staying in a self-catering appartment and wondered what will be there and what you suggest we bring ourselves? I know we have to take towels, but will there be blankets/duvets/pillows? I have also heard it's wise to take a kettle-would you agree?

Thanks

beachlou, you're usually provided with pillows/blankets, and will need to supply/rent other linen. I wouldn't bother lugging a kettle about - water boils just the same in a pan.

brian, every supermarket in 2Alpes stocks British teabags, along with Cadbury's chocolate, Irn Bru, Marmite and (strangely) custard powder.

Lizzard, well we bought some supposedly tetley t-bags in L2A last summer in superficially uk style packaging but they were the usual french tea disaster inside, like buying 1664 here Sad

beachlou, If you are in L2A on Sunday there is a snowHeads meet at the Lutins at 6 o clock. You can't miss it. It is the nice little hotel with the bar on the mainstreet just at the bottom of the Jandri lift.

Chris Bish, Cool

It must have been very warm today because my feet were so toasty warm I had to check the heaters weren't on! Shocked It started sunny and then got gently cloudier all afternoon. By 17.00 it was spitting with rain in the village and snowing at the top. I skied pretty much all over today. gours in the morning with the grown-ups (very nice), then Toura, boarderX and some very interesting (read sehr schwerig) off piste snow with the smaller kids. then up to the glacier, work on carving, Echines de chevre (main bit not just the lower part) and down to 2,600 with the big kids (including James SnowskiSnow. Good snow everywhere until about 14.00 when it got slushy lower down. Last bits down to the village (Lutins piste etc,) are a mix between heavy sluch and large puddles!

Forgot to say this is the view from the top of the Bellecombe chair looking up to the glacier.

Lizzard, thanks for that. Didn't fancy squeezing in pillows. will just take some bottom sheets then. Will remember the tea bags

Chris Bish, we'll be there on Sunday-will mention it to the guys-thanks

beachlou, you will want some top sheets and pillow cases as well. Pillows and blankets supplied can be a bit skanky by this late stage of the season.

Supermarkets en route are LeClerc at Grenoble (gone a bit downmarket recently, don't like it), Intermarche at Vizille, Champion just past Vizille, and Casino in Bourg d'Oisans. Casino is most convenient as long as you don't want anything particularly exotic. Marche U in resort is also good, prices much the same as Casino.

Bourg d'Oisans also has a good market if you're passing through on Saturday morning.

Ah water skiing! Don't you just love this time of year? Laughing

I have a quick question for you, Charlotte - is your (or indeed any) glacier generally suitable in the summer for total beginners, all other things being equal (i.e. not when blue and transparent)? Or would you advise someone who was keen to have a go but had never so much as put skis and boots on to wait until the winter?

eng_ch, I teach a lot of comlete beginers in the summer. There's a beginner area at 3,400. then the Roche Mantel. It's obviously not quite as progressive as the village slopes in winter, but very nice int he good weather and views etc.

beachlou, Honestly I wouldn't bother to stop en route (unless at Leclerc or a similar hyperstore. The Marche U in town is very competitive and has a pretty good choice of everything you might need.

Markus, I think it's busy, but then in Feb I was apalled and several of my clients thought it was fine! really it's a matter of knowing where to go, but if you ski down at the usual 4pm ish rush hour it's truly dreadful. Best thing here is to go up around 10 - 10.30, lunch around 2 and then ski till 5. Most peeps only make it til 4....

When does Deux Alpes plan to close - IIRC they close for a short time before opening up again for Summer.

I'm currently trying to work out where to go for some late skiing and when my window of opportunity will end!

Am I right in thinking conditions higher up are still decent?

beachlou, Open till 21.00 on a Saturday.

HMA, It wasn't me who linked the report - I think it was a #swiss something .... I just think, personally and from observation of the shrinkage here, that about 20 years is th max left.

It was quite a nice day today, but in and out with the sun and the warmth. Cool on the glacier this morning, getting very warm at midday, and with the clouds (when they were blocking the sun) the light went a bit. Skied all over the glacier this am - perfect snow with a little bit of fluff on top (maybe 2-3cms). Bottom of Echines de Cheveres was pretty good and the younger kids did that one. Big wiz kids did the Hidden valley and here are two pix from near the end (we were boiled) looking up at one of the walls and looking down through "Zotov's leap" to the last section. We finished up down the Grande Pente which was ab fine. About 6" of rather soft spring snow, but more that skiable - I really enjoyed it. Also we managed to do the whole thing without hitting a rock, which was excellent as there isn't m,uch snow around at the bottom of it. Very Happy Tomorrow is supposed to be colder, but unless it snows I'd rather it stayed warm or it'll be hard. Off up to the glacier first thing for us then ...
