I bought a helmet for my first ski holiday last year and was very glad I had it when I crashed down and hit my head very hard (horrible headache and feeling lousy for the rest of the day). I'm quite sure I would have been considerably worse off without all the padding. I also know someone who was crashed into from behind while skiing down the slopes and the helmet she was wearing came out with long, deep scratches/slices/stripes across it - without the helmet, that would have been her head.

In the last 25 years, skiing 3 times a year I have only ever known 2 guides who wore a helmet - one was last year on my one visit to Canada, the other was the year before in the Alps (but he was English).

Use a Hammer H1 with a visor and it's great. Never used to use a helmet but the hammers that comfortable I figure if I wear something on my head it might as will be hard.

Yes, but my point is I have never known (including now) a guide in Europe who wore one, except the English guy (and I ski with 3 guides per year and meet others).
