Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The dolomites would be the closest probably - e.g. Cortina. Not sure how far, but check out viamichelin.com

You have Cortina directly North of Venice and next to that Arabba and the rest of the Gruppo Di Sella. Going by my Italy road map it is motorway most of the way. It looks like about 150 Km so maybe two-three hours drive? You could also go east to Verona and turn north towards Trento where you have Madona and further on Passo Tonale. I did the drive from Verona to Madona a few weeks ago and it took about two hours. Verona is 51 Km from Venice (Venezia).

I drove Venice - Cortina, can't remember the details but do remember that it was an extremely easy and straightforward journey. And well worth it - the whole area around Cortina is gorgeous. But that was March and the Dolomites are not noted for lots of early snow, I think?

I done the same drive in October 2001 ( not a ski holiday ) and it was a fantastically easy drive all the way to Cortina D'Ampezzo. Once you get out of Venice ( tip - stay north of the city near or beyond Mesto or near the airport that Ryanair flys into ) and it will be a doddle on the autostrada which was almost empty. It takes about 1.5 - 2 hours from north of Venice to Cortina.

If you have time I'd recommend that you stop off at a lovely town called Belluno, just on the left on the way there and nearer to Cortina.

Enjoy the Veneto region!.
