Poster: A snowHead

Hello all. We are looking for a catered chalet or small friendly pension from Friday 15th December for a week. We are a family of four - two teenage children rapidly out skiing their ageing parents!! We can get to Salzburg and hire a car and would love to hear from any snowheads who can recommend accommodation for us. The date is the crucial thing for us. Thanks Loatie

You could try Obertauern usally has plenty snow by mid December http://www.obertauern.com/ site has links to acomadation
If you can wait till near the time of travel there are lots of options at lower down resorts if the snow is good.

Hi,
I use a website called tiscover (www.tiscover.at) for booking accommodation in austria - it's simple and easy to use. I'd highly recommend it. You can also use it for lastminute booking and they do packages inc. liftpasses etc. There should be loads of the latter that early on in the season. Have fun!

DB, to be fair though they were both relevant answers to questions, I see where you're coming from though.
flangesax, DB is referring to another poster who had a tendancy to mention his place as the answer to most questions, that sort of thing gets frowned upon on here (chalet pimping).
I think you'll find though that our silence can be bought with cheap deals and inside information on the ski area and conditions.

flangesax, welcome to sH. It would be good that you joined in (as FenlandSkier, suggests), so often people just make an initial post to an advert. Insider information on Austria from you would be helpful to balance the otherwise main emphasis on France.

Admin posted this in another thread on the subject:
"The problem is that one person's 'helpful, enthusiastic, chalet owning, active member of the snowHeads community' is another person's Chalet Pimp. ". A tricky one.
As Ray Zorro says, we haven't got many Austrian insiders so you'll be a usefull asset.

Dont worry I wont. I only answered coz I could answer directly. Of course I will join in allover Snowheads. Ive only just signed up though so give me a chance to have a look around the site. As for Austria - it snowed over the weekend - Flachau have had their blowers on which I can see from my window. Zauchensee opens soon and according to another thread Shladming opens this weekend but I cant find info on that anywhere. I dont mean to offend anyone. Ange

Hi
First post so be kind. We use a guest house in Filzmoos called Haus Lowe.
Filzmoos is only 70 to 80 minutes from salzburg only limited sking but with lots of skiing only 10 min away(Flachau Zauchense)see www.skiamade.com
Haus lowe is english owned and next to chair. Also good ski school across the road ski school bogai.
If snow is poor dachstein glacier is only 20 minutes away.
Look at www.haus-lowe.com

flangesax,
No probs, I'm only pulling your leg. Good to see more Brits taking the plunge and coming over to the Austrian alps. It's just that some people come here and virtually every post is an advertisement. If it's give and take then most people don't seem to mind, and if I had a guest house I might just mention it once or thrice.
What we seem to be missing in Austria at the moment are contact details for good bootfitters (not just Intersport or Giga Sports sales people). I know a couple of good bootfitters in St Anton but nothing in Salzburg. The local top ski-instructors / racers tend to know who can sell a boot and who can fit one.
Welcome to snowheads and welcome to Österreich.
kevthekite,
Welcome too.
