Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I've stayed there.

Food excellent, definitely 4 star, rooms typical modern French ski resort, a bit on the small side.

Outdoor swimming pool cold.

Would stay there again.

I've never had a bad holiday with Mark Warner, and I've been away with them about ten times now.

The Val d'Isere does have a bit of reputation for being a little bit posh.

Cheers Guys, that has been a help.

We are also looking at the MW resort in Duex Alp, which a friend has stayed in wich they recommended. Unfortunatley we have kids (but are normal!) Very Happy so it is either Val, Les Deux or St Anton again!

rintsp, MW have other chalet hotels in Val d'Isere - we have stayed at the Toviere twice and it was okay, rooms in need of updating but good food and service. Also right opposite the funicular at La Daille and has easier runs back down than Solaise. Stayed at the MW chalet hotel in Tignes le Lac - L'Aiguille Percée last Christmas. This was a better standard of 'hotel' than the Toviere, also very handy for lifts etc and MW food and service up to scratch.

Never been to Val, so all this info is really useful! Always used to ski in North America B.C. Went with MW to St Anton last year and was impressed, hence are trying them again this year. I would actually go back to St Anton, but early Jan (when we are looking to go) is a bit dodgy in Austria....mind U even early season I bet it is nothing compared to the conditions in Korea where I spent 3 years trying to avoid collisions mad americans and the locals!

Thanks

Pete

Have stayed at Chalet Hotel Val d'Isere on 3 occasions and would recommend it highly. Warm and friendly atmosphere, good food and rooms perfectly adequate. Excellent singles on the top floor. Right in the centre.

rintsp, I stayed in La Berengere (I think?) in Les Deux Alpes last season, and I can highly recommend it. Great location, nice views, really nice hotel, pretty much ski in ski out, and LDA is a really nice resort. And apparently there's a ski instructor there that people seem to rate quite highly.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

rintsp, with kids, Les Deux Alpes would be a no brainer for me, the ski school meet the kids just outside the entrance to the boot room and creche.

If you're there in January, we may bump into you.

The Val d'Isere is a five minute walk from the ski school and base of the lifts.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I stayed there 3 years ago in January got a good last minute price. The room was as I expected but the food was top notch, way above my expectations and it is slap bang in the middle of town. There is also a good swimming pool half inside half outside as I recall, the outside bit is a good experience on a January evening ! They also have The Morris nearby which has a much more lively bar and apres scene but is not nearly such a nice place to stay in (imho) If you go there I dont think you will be disappointed

Not just in your opinion. The Morris is a dump. But it is a fun place to stay.

I didn't realise that people (other than saisonnaires) actually stayed in the Moris. I thought it was just a bar?

rintsp, Sorry to resurrect an old thread but did you go to the Chalet Hotel Val d'Isere with MW?

I've just been asked to join my sister and family there at the end of March and was wondering what your impression was before going ahead. (there are two awful reviews of the place on trip advisor http://www.tripadvisor.com)

colin_g,

I stayed there about three years ago with MW who (as far as I know) own it. We got a really good discount booking the week before we went. The food was acceptably good, the hotel is in a good position but was a bit tired and could do with updating. We had a double room with a balcony overlooking the square which was OK as you could sit on the balcony with a beer and watch all the goings on below. Downside was that Mrs Trenmold got food poisoning on the last day but I think Val D'Isere is notorious for this Sad

I would probably go there again if the price was right however the transfers by bus from Geneva to Val D'Isere are very long and train is a preferable option (although I don't think MW offer that option.) Ask if it has been redecorated since 2003!
