Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Getting to Red Mountain - Cancelgar

 Poster: A snowHead

We're going to Red mountain at the end of feb, flying from Vancouver to Castlegar. Apparently this airport is affectionately known as 'Cancelgar' due to the number of flights that get cancelled due the scary approach that you _really_ wouldn't want to do on a foggy day (which I'm guessing there's a good chance of in the middle of winter) http://strickland.ca/flying/2003/ontario/20030628-154743.jpg or from the other direction http://strickland.ca/flying/2003/ontario/20030810-111651.jpg Shocked
Does anyone know the lieklyhood of actually getting there and back and what alternatives exist should it get cancelled?

Spokane, Washington is nearest intl airport I think. Cranbrook then Highway 3 a possibility but need to cross Kootenay pass Creston-Salmo.

I guess Kelowna is a possibility then a drive through via weird little desert town of Osoyoos.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you think the flights are too risky, then you could just drive: highway 1 out of Vancouver to Hope, then Highway 3 all the way. Probably take 8-9 hours. Flying partway to Kelowna (or futher to Cranbrook as mentioned) would shorten the overall time to maybe 6 hours: but you'd be paying airfares on top of the car hire that you'd still need.
