Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I don't wish to labelled as being too pro-Sandy here but what has bansko, done that is different?

A couple of posts, all of which are incredibly pro Bansko to the point of spammy.
Got a link in the signiture to a commercial webpage.
The author is even an HTML specialist/professional too.

I only see double standards here...sorry to be blunt.

I agree rungsp.

It depends on whether one of the mods has come across it or if anyone has reported it.

I posted a very neutral link to The Observer article. It was NOT biased at all. It pointed out good and bad. That's all.

My website is not a commercial website - It is a personal website that I built for my apartment.

What I do object to is in every request for an opinion on where to go, certain posters pop up: "I know you said you wanted to go to beginner's resort in France, but how about St Anton" type thing (and not directed at anyone who owns in St Anton, I just picked that out of air as a resort not particularly suitable for beginners - and not in France).

cathy, Puzzled I am confused. At the risk of dredging up something that we've moved on from, I thought that Sandy basically said the same thing - i.e. her site was a personal website for her condo and that she happens to be good at building websites. The only difference (if I remember correctly) is that she was interested to know who went to Canada, where they went and what they paid. Bansko's link is a link to an apartment too. Puzzled

He hasn't overtly pushed his apartment on anybody. We can choose to access his website link or not. Its prompted an interesting debate. I confess to liking Val d'sere. There's great skiing there (can't say as we really hit the apres ski in a big way).

Bansko - I don't think is an aspiring Val D'sere. Its niche seems to me for the moments is a cheap and affordable place for newcomers to the sport as was Andorra. If it expands great for the owners. As an investment, I'd be aware. ~Almost every small resort that's not mainstream seems to have a promise of an expanding ski area. I even saw a such a suggestion for La Rosiere on the MGM website.

If you're buying because you want somewhere cheap in the mountains that you want to enjoy Very Happy -good luck and enjoy

geetee, to me, Sandy came across as not being totally honest about her intentions. Her first post was her own promotion of the resort (and not totally factually accurate) and then subsequent posts asking about people's opinions of when they book holidays etc. Plus the website didn't seem right. Bansko seems more honest, has linked to a published article on a resort where he has an apartment (and it is clearly his own website for his appartment PS I don't like the things that follow your cursor around - seriously annoying!) - and there has been discussion of the resort, not all good! Bansko has responded to people's posts nicely.

But admin may well decide different!

Hi there.

I never registered and promoted my own property. I joined and posted an article about Bansko written by The Observer.

As mentioned I didn't know Sandy but as bh1 has just said our behaviour on the forum is different, again I cannot comment.

To be perfectly honest as dan100 said, it has prompted an interesting debate on Bansko.

Can we stop the debate on Sandy as it spoils this thread somewhat and if anyone has anything to say about Bansko (good or bad) then post it here. That was what the thread was about, let's not forget that.

You are obviously a great asset to this forum london1977 with comments like that. Well done.

bh1, yes that's kind of what I meant. I think that this post has been more subtle in its advertising than others. It's not a 'Hi everyone! I have an apartment in Bansko. Come and stay here' post. Bansko (the resort) is being reviewed and there's a handy link to an accommodation website. However, isn't it still advertising?

bansko,

The point that some are making is that you've recently joined and are promoting - through the inclusion of a link in your signature - your property without presumably (a) the express permission of the site owner, and (b) without some measure of gratitude for being able to post your link on one of the most popular skiing websites in the UK.

This is what the BBC website says about Tamworth Snowdome:

Quote:
Real snow all year round! Tamworth Snowdome is the best place to go if you want a taste of what it's like to ski on the real snow... almost! The speed and the ease of movement is there but sometimes snow coverage is not very deep, which allows for some truly hairy moments when you hit an icy patch.

That said, the curving main slope is 170 metres of pure fun, and if you're into skiing, snowmobiling, tobogganing, snowblading and snowboarding (phew!), then this is much closer to the real thing than dry ski slopes.

If you can't do the difficult stuff, then there are other things to enjoy in the evenings - including adrenaline tubing (this consists of holding on to a huge rubber inner tube and flying down the slope).
There are also 'Learn to Ski in a Day' courses, which teaches people recreational skiing. Plus there are also lessons aimed at improving your technique too.

Kit hire is included in the price; and there is a bar & restaurant in the style of a Swiss Alpine chalet. Nice.Real snow all year round! I express no opinion on sig advertising but to suggest that just because an article is in a newspaper means its unbiased is laughable. How many articles in travel sections or ski magazines do you see that really slag a place off? Journalists, with the exception of the Independent IIRC travel on complimentary trips provided by tour ops etc. Now they might have their own professional standards but I would always take things witha pinch of salt. Property sections in particular seem to have a lazy habit of regurgitating developer's press releases almost word for word.

CEM had good advice in that thread:

Quote:
as i see it there are a few unwritten rules, no doubt i will be corrected

1 come in slowly, make informative posts about sujects other than your place to rent, what do you know anout ski legth or a good jacket that someone else might like to know about.

2 don't talk about your business, talk about accomodation but let others talk about your business

3 if you need more clarity contact Admin about how he would like you to position the whole thing, donation discount etc etc I do know this is something that is in discussion as Helen says but i would think it will be resolved soon

Are we not getting a bit carried away with the spaminating here ?

It's pretty obvious the thread is an article about Bansko and that bansko has an interest there and no hidden agenda. The article gives pros and cons and has prompted a discussion about Bansko and Bulgarian skiing and property in general.

Picking a random pimp, would ben wright have stuck around for 1000+ posts if he'd got the same kind of welcome following this opener ?

I agree with cathy that the likes of "where would be a good self catering appt in a resort with tons of extreme skiing" followed up with "can we tempt you to our catered chalet in La Ros" can get a bit tiresome but the way things are heading anyone with in-depth knowledge of a resort and commercial interest is going to be hounded off here in no time.

No I posted my opinion on Bansko, saying it was a cheaper alternative to other ski resorts. I think it was entitled Anyone fancy Bansko?

I have just said that I put an opinion about Bansko on the forum and your right my signature had a link in it, the same as now.

I also said they got deleted.

I didn't say check out my apartment nor did I say anything along the sort.

It was two sentences that said it was a cheaper alternative and it has new facilities.

That's all. If you thought it was spamming that's fine. I haven't done it since.

My next post was an article from The Observer.

bansko - you join the forum in the middle of a difficult conversation...

My agreement with rungsp is based on you and Sandy doing essentially the same things to promote your properties. Personally, I don't think that either is so bad - it's just the consistency of standards. The thing is, though, is that we often don't know the full history if the mods or admin have already decided to take action.

Here's the thing:

I don't really think bansko, has done anything very wrong. A tad cheeky to have only posted on the place that he has a commercial interest in promoting, but no big deal in my opinion.

I have exactly the same view on Sandy (reserving judgement on a reportedly rude PM to Helen, if as rude as she says then slapped wrists as a minimum!).

There might well be people wanting to go to Bansko (wierd, but possible) or to wherever it was in Canada.
Why not let them have access to properties/information that come direct from the guy/gal on the spot?
