Two major roadwork developments in the Tarentaise are due to be completed this winter, easing transfer congestion to the upper Tarentaise resorts. The Centron bypass between Moutiers and Bourg St Maurice is due for completion after four years of work, and the new Franchet tunnel should make access to Val d'Isere that much smoother.
Both projects are due to be completed in December, although I have no idea if they are working to schedule. Any of the locals know if they will be completed in time for this ski season?

rob@rar,
I think there are major questions over the Bourg Bypass - I could see no evidence of it being built this Summer yet I hear that it is supposed to be going over the lake by the funicular and rejoining the Val Disere road after Seez - Therefore cant see it being finished this year
Anyone know if the Tunnel D'alpine roadworks before Chambery are finished yet as these can cause big delays

Kieran, I think the news refers to a bypass further down towards Moutiers (just after the long tunnel, where the big new road bridge has been constructed), rather than the BSM bypass itself.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

rob@rar, Talking to the locals in august the general concensus was that the Centron diversion was ahead of schedule and therefore would be open as planned in December.
Kieran, I'm not sure which Chambery tunnel you mean, (I'm not good with the names of tunnels!)
One was re-furbished during the summer but in August when we came back the one closer to Chambery was still being worked on. The summer one caused huge queue's back to the Peage just after Chambery(on way home) but was completed on time!

I tend to go via Annecy rather than Chambery (mainly because I prefer the scenery) and have only once got caught in heavy traffic approaching Annecy. Is this a better option than via Chambery?
