Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I know we are a good couple of months away from opening days etc but i happened to be looking at some reasonably detailed info on the past few seasons and it struck me than in the last few there was snow already at about 2000m, even if it subsequently melted in the following days.

I'm not concerned, more excited about hopping onto a couple of sites to see the first white stuff snowHead

There have been a few falls of snow already (there was some fresh at the end of August, at altitude, I think). Nothing lasts at this time of year because temperatures will soon rise even if there's a cold snap for a few days.

This was Les Arcs just a few days ago, snowline down to about 2200m I'd guess.

yeah exactly, just seems like there has been a fair gap since the last cold snap, if anyone is interested in how the last few seasons unfolded, I was reading this - excellent site btw, just all in french: http://www.lessaisies.org/meteo_pistes/historique_long.html

It doesn;t really help that m,uch as you;re still downloading a massive image, then showing it at a reduced size. where possible you should link to a smaller image, most of the image hosting websites will serve copies of images at different sizes

desperate as we all are to read the runes, I wonder whether there is any correlation between exciting-looking snowfalls in October and long-term snow depths for the subsequent season. I suspect not but it would be interesting to know.

pam w, Don't think so, but it does seem to have snowed a bit at altitude, snow showing constantly on La Muzelle on the LDA webcam down to about 3000 or maybe a bit lower.

Michelle, Yes, but I don't think skinutter, was around then. Very Happy

If I had a choice between mid October and mid November snow I would take the latter. It doesn't look as if it will snow much below 3000 m before the 28th anyway.
