Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What new for 2006/07 in the brochures

The Belfast Telegraph has gone through the list of TOs to see what are the new resorts on offer.

Fancy Rusutsa, a resort on the nothern Japanese island of Hokkaido at a weekly c of £1,225?. Plus points - reliable deep powder snow, exotic atmosphere, polite locals, extreemly inexpensive alcohol, night skiing. Negative points - language barrier, expensive, a long flight.

Or Faraya-Mzaar above Beirut in Lebanon - OK as long as they have cleared the explosives from the piste!.

Or the mobile home site in France ( Le Grand Bornard - £199 p/w s/c ) - see last paragraph of the article - not a bad price for a weeks skiing.

At the end of the day many of ( though not all ) of the best resorts are those not in the TO brochures - these unspoilt, off the beaten track resorts that the mass market has not yet got around to promoting ( and never will , actually ) that all you need to travel independently - its easier these days with the internet - online booking of flights, car hire and accommodation. But, because of lack of time/lazyness/lack of adventure many of us still shy away from sorting our ski holidays out ourselves and leave it to the TOs packages with all that entails in term of expensive overcrowded resorts - Verbier springs to mind!.

also, I am sure I remember reading somewhere, very crowded slopes with horrendous queues.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

pam w,
I think that may be true of resorts on the main Island especially at weekends but Hokkaido is I believe pretty quiet most of the time.
