Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi I will be in Zurich in Jan 2007. I was wondering what is the closest ski resort to Zurich?

I also was thinking about going to Schilthorn/Piz Gloria. Is this too far from Zurich?

Any ideas of the types of tours to do from Zurich, what is the best? or the ones worth doing?

Welcome matrix1000,

The closest well known resorts are Engelberg and Wengen/Junfrau IMV... Engelberg is about 2 hrs by train..depending on the change at Lucerne and Wengen would be a bit longer...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

matrix1000, welcome to snowHead

It will take you about 4 hours from Zurich station to the top of the Schilthorn.

matrix1000, will you have a car or will you be reliant on public transport? If the latter, the closest and easiest (bubble from train station) is Flumserberg. If you want something bigger and comparatively little effort (but not as easy as falling out of the train into the gondola) then Engelberg and Flims/Laax would fit the bill (purely from a transport pov)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Probably not the closest to Zurich but the Arlberg (St. Anton, Lech, Zuers) is easily accessed from Zurich. We flew into Zurich and took the Arlberg Express (a bus) that goes from the Zurich airport to the ski resorts. We thought it was very convenient. A net search on the Arlberg Express should give you the details.

Yeah good point RISkier, Austria is quite close. Plenty of skiing in the Montafon valley as well as Lech-StA.

richmond, yes at Chur (I think). I did it one weekend (when I was working in Zurich) and it only seemed a hassle because we had to leave late on Friday evening.

skanky, Landquart is the change. The cable car at Klosters is right next to the train station.

At Chur you can get a train to Arosa or bus to Lenzerheide or Flims/Laax.
