Poster: A snowHead

After decades of pre-planned trips going to try a late booking this season.
Have a number of friends skiing for a week in Courchevel 1650 starting on 21st Jan. Plan is that I and junior will book a late deal to coincide with that trip. Hope to get into 1650, but possibilities of 1550 and 1850 as well with buses to 1650 for socialising.
Anyone see any flaws in that plan? Late availability in Courchevel from previous experience? How late can I risk booking the deal, and what is the benefit of leaving it that late?

I've booked a couple of last minute trips to Courchevel in the past (both mid-January), but in general I think that late booking works best when you have no specific requirements such as resort choice.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Cymru am Byth, Late booking should be fine for 2 persons. www.skiolympic.co.uk are great and have 3 large properties in 1650. Les Avals would suit you best as it is attached to one of 1650s busiest bars. Les Avals often has space and that week is usually nice and quiet.

Frosty the Snowman, Can't imagine why you should emphasize the benefit of being attached to a bar. Something that I've said in the past.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

IMO it should be pretty easy to find a good deal for that week although the week before is usally a shade cheaper.
Courchevel 1650 often throws up more late stuff than the other Courchevels too.
I'd recommend you start looking around a few days into the new year and regard the first week or two as practice in finding the best deals. Collect up a few bookmarks of sites which reliably come up with good deals. It's also best to phone one or two to get an idea of whether the quoted prices are acurate or are going to have £300 of "non-optional extras" tacked on.
For the best price, hold your nerve and book less than a week from departure... if you dare

I think there is close to zero risk for finding somewhere in Courchevel, you can DIY it if necessary and often cheaper. Finding a particular hotel/chalet /appartment the risk rises. Needing to fly from a regional airport again the risk rises. You may or may not get a cheap deal depending on how Courchevels snow is compared with other places, I would guess the chances are good and I would risk it.

I've done this third week in January many times, and never had a problem getting a late booking anywhere in the French Alps.
