Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Salomon Scream 9

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have the opportunity to purchase pair of used Scream 9's for a decent price. My concern is that it's 177cm and I'm 6'4, 180 lbs. Do you think it's OK or should I hold off and look for 183+cm?

I currently have 190cm straight skis and been using them for 12 years. My skill level is probably intermediate, just recreational. I'd really like to improve and figure shaped skis should make things a lot funner.

Sorry if this is a really elementary question. I don't know much about equipment.

jimhead, 177 would be fine, as for the price, for those it should be under £150.

Oh, and welcome to snowHeads!

...and take lessons once you get the new skis!!

Hey, thanks for the advice!

Next question -- With the new skis, is it worth upgrading my boots as well? I have these old school rear entry boots. I'm guessing the answering is "yes". But if I didn't upgrade, that would still be usable, right?

jimhead, yes yes yes, your nice new skis would really like to be attached to some shine new boots, you will find a big difference in comfort and performance with a modern boot. as for are your old boots useable, all depends on how much wear there is on the soles....go on you know you want to Toofy Grin

Hire different boots in resort to then decide which type you like.Avoid stiff race style boots with these skis better with a lighter boot . Smile

Edward Kingston, I'm not so convinced about hiring boots. I had dreadful problems with hire boots in the past - and now choose boots and footbeds as recommended - and sorted for me -by expert fitters. Whilst new they are a bit of a pain whilst the liners bed in, and the shell needs tweaking. So, quite apart from the cost, I a loathe to buy new ones in a hurry.

Edward Kingston, I agree with Achilles - I would rather hire underwear than hire boots... If my boots don't arrive with me - I skip a day (but I pack them in hand-luggage now anyway....) By the time you get your mitts on the boots in a hire shop they have been on dozens of feet and will be smelly and sloppy. Also because most good skiers would only use their own boots, most shops don't seem to me to carry the breadth of range that they do for top-flight demo skis.
