Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

MarkH, I'd second familyski.co.uk

OK, we've never actually used them, but when we stayed in the same area we were jealous of their guests - we stayed at another chalet in the area and had one child in a local creche (Jack Frosts) and another in ESF at Lindarets. The familyski reps/carers seemed tp be all over the place with all thier kids (good ratios too) and were exceptionally friendly etc. Next time we go back to that area we wouldn't hesitate to book with them. The chalets are dead convenient too. Go for it.

But what are the prices like in the Morzine area?

A more complex question that you might expect...

In summary, relatively high and going higher.

The biggest problem is that there appears to be a real shortage of smaller properties. Lots of Brits (us included) have exitted money from the UK (London in particular) and bought studios, one bed and two bed apartments. It means that prices at that end of the market have been pushed up significantly and that a lot of the apartments are being sold before they get to the estate agents.

We had a look in the estate agents' windows last weekend and there were, perhaps, only 10 or 15 resale apartments on display across 6 or 7 agents (it's common for people to have the same property on with multiple agents).

Bigger properties are disporportionately better value. We saw a 2 bed apartment for 300k euros next to a four bed chalet (around 2.5 times the size) for 420k euros.

Where you buy in town also, of course, makes a huge difference. Our one bed with mezzanine is probably worth around 200k euros now (up from 150k when we bought it), but would be another 60-70k euros if it were further into town.

It also depends on the experience you want. Whilst ski in / ski out is great for a week, the hastle of being in the centre of town isn't worth it if you're there more often.

It means we've changed how we ski. Whilst we can catch the ski bus into town in 5 minutes, we prefer to drive up to Ardent. Now that we realise that we might have been tempted to buy in St Jean d'Aulps, which is 5 minutes down the road and two thirds of the price.

When are you planning to come out?
