Another fine report - have to agree with you: the view over Val Thorens from the pass from Orelle is something else...

Between the 2 runs from the Sommet is a very nice off piste area where at the end of April a very kind SnowHead helped many of us undertake our first off-piste journey

fraserp, End of April the off piste was much nicer than than the red. Still unpisted and quite steep in places. I suspect it is often left unpisted.

A very inexpensive way of doing val thorens and rest of 3v is stay in St Jean de la Maurienne and drive to orelle every day. Good hotel 2* with really excellent restaurant is hotel du nord. From here you can also try Les Karellis which has a interesting 60kms of runs.
