A man wanted by Australian police for questioning in connection with the murder of a model has been traced to Megeve in France.
Gordon Wood, who has dual British and Australian nationality, fled Australia in 1999, after the 1995 murder of model Caroline Byrne. He has been working as a masseur in the ski resort and has reportedly befriended Brits in the resort, not making himself universally popular. He has reportedly worked for a British tour company.
This report from News.com.au.
[Just a friendly legal note: if responding to this item, bear in mind that Gordon Wood has not been charged]

An Australian newspaper 'The Australian' claims to have pounced on Gordon Wood, maybe as a result of a police tip-off. His British friend in the resort Simon Butler then claims to have suggested a 'press conference' in a local McDonald's (perhaps not with their consent) and the story unfolds...Click here
Sounds like there's a little team of Australian hacks in delightful Megeve at this moment, but it's not clear what the Australian police are up to.

I do not believe for one second that Gordy is capable of murder. Don't believe everything you read in the news.

snowscreamer, unfortunately we are all capable of murder. In Canada one third of all murders are committed by friends/family. In the USA it is one half.

Does that mean that the Canadians are less friendly than the Americans then?

Sorry to disappoint the scandalmongers, but having chatted to Mr Woods on a chair lift he was very affable and didn't display any homicidal tendencies at all. but you never can tell. Contrary to the report above, he seemed quite popular with the Brits actually, especially the ladies. I think we should bear in mind this gentleman has not been charged but it looks like this posting could plunge into the depths of tabloid sensationalism. Personally, I can't see what this salacious gossip about his affairs in Australia has got to do us or with skiing.

snobrain, Well it certainly has got a lot to do with which massage service you might choose to use when next in that particular resort! We await developments with interest.

I didn't know that he was ever a masseur. I've only known him as a photographer on the slopes.

snobrain, everything is of interest to Snowheads. Skiing, sex and scandal may come first (and for some of us there is a continuing fascination in disecting the SCGB), but among the hundreds of threads you will find Mathematics and Complex numbers , the noble art of Limerick Writing , climate change and Plate Techtonics , and a Dating Agency .
Normal conversation really, but better.

Actually having ITEC massage qualifications - I can say that they were the best courses I've ever taken - but I'd never dream of using these skills for 'nefarious' intent. I’m just curious if Mr. Wood was practicing legally . . . . ramble. . . . ramble . . . .ramble to other thread . . . or whether he was just another ski-bum gigolo?

Might have to book the boss onto one of these courses... how long was it?
Sounds like a great idea for a future present: "here you are sweetie, here's a massage course for you. Want to practice?"

1989, few years ago.... Remember now, it was at the Churchill Centre, no idea if it still exists. Just behind Oxford Street somewhere. Can't remember exactly, but it was over 5 or 6 weekends I think. Definitely the best course I've ever taken! There's bound to be somewhere north of the border....

Re opening the subject of Gordon Wood or Gordon Wouldn't. I worked for Simon Butler Skiing for a season (03-04) during that time I spent a fair amount of time in Gordo's company and I always found him friendly, charming and considerate. I think it's pretty niave of people to say things like "I sat on a ski lift with him and he was really nice so I don't think he can have killed anyone" Apparantly Saddam Hussein is a very personable man, and I've heard that Dubya bush is meant to be Ok, and look what they've been upto. When i was in Megeve the rumour mill was in full flow and I chose to ignore things, telling people that Gordo was alright. It was only after he vanished suddenly one night, never to be seen again, that i started to dig around. Credible papers in Australia have been following Gordon's progress for some time and the fact that oz police have spent 11 years trying to extradite him must indicate that they feel they have a strong case against him. He's finally back in Australia after extradition proceedings and i suppose he'll have to face the music pretty soon. Gordon was a friendly bloke and I got on well with him, I worked with him, skied with him and socialised him, but that doen't mean he isn't a murderer.
