Poster: A snowHead

That funky little Freeski Magazine, Dark Summer has launched the "UK Freeski Awards" through which it aims to provide recognition for freeskiing, as well as highlight freeskiing to a wider audience. Voting will run until Saturday 30th September, and the award ceremony will take place in London on the evening of Thursday 19th October. ...There are ten categories to vote in, and the possibility to add more nominees if you feel the current list is incomplete. What’s more, every vote you place will be entered into a prize draw for some great prizes from the competition’s sponsors.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

What is a Freeskier exactly? I checked the pages on the website (although not the voting areas) but no explaination.
From the picture on the main page I assume it is someone who dislikes his Salomons so much he is about to thrown them off the edge of a mountain into the abyss.

I was going to whack my own definition down here for your davidof, but found that wikipedia actually do it quite concisely:
Quote: |
Freeskiing is a term that was traditionally used to describe skiing for fun, as opposed to training or racing. In the mid 1990s, the term was adopted by big mountain skiers and "extreme skiing" professionals. The free in freeskiing refers to skiing outside artificially-set limits such as race gates, and ski area boundaries. Today the term encompasses two general camps of skiing: big mountain skiing (high-angle descents including cliffs and other extreme exposure), and "new school" or terrain park skiing (tricks and railslides performed in snowboarding style). |
