Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A Day Trip from St. Anton to Ischgl?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Is this too much?

Looks like no train. And a bus. For 1 hr.

Do people think it is worth it?

I understand it's a cruising mountain. But give a rest from St. Anton? worth a day?

telski, go to Lech or Zurs if you want a rest from St Anton, they're on the Arlberg lift pass, there's a regular post bus and it's much nearer, you can even stop off at St Cristoph or Stuben if feel like it.

Depends how bored you are at St Anton.

Ischgl is a top spot ... definitely easiser than St Anton but I wouldn't call it cruisy ... there's plenty of challenging stuff there if you look hard enough ... there are some really nice ski routes if the snow is good.

But as David@traxvax, says there are other places nearer on the same pass.

There's actually a little known ski area on the same pass that's not listed on the piste map which is well worth a visit for a day .. it's about 30 - 45 mins drive west over the pass .. keep going past St Christoph, don't take the Zurs and Lech turning and keep on going past Stuben .... i can't remember the exact name but it's something like Sonnenberg or Sonnenalp ... I think you can get a Post bus there as well but i've only driven myself.

Ok.

Im your man on this (not litterally)

Its possbile to get a FULL day in + enjoy the Ischgl Apres

How many are you ?

You need to get the 06:00 out of St Anton to Landeck , bus to Ischgl. Last bus back but its eay to hitch to Landeck. Its no big deal I have done this many times . You will get into Ischgl for lift opening . All the lift guys take this bus !!

Its definitly worth a trip but its not the same as going to Lech or Zurs which is interconnected, your be very tired at the end of the day fromt he travelling.

stanton .
worked season 85/86 Ischgl

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks St. Anton.

I know that Lech/Zurs are just a bus ride a way OR guided off-piste off St. Anton backside.

But instead of doing Sound of Music in Salzburg...I'd rather do Ischgl for a day.

There are 4 of us....and I need to set expectations. We are all American guys with no German skills....and want to ski around.

Doing a week in St. Anton....using Brit friends for recommending guiding to do Valluga....and some Rendl north-side runs.

Thought Ishgl would be worthy of a day.

RichA, the resort you are thinking about is called Sonnenkopf I believe.

I've only been over there, ostensibly to take an off-piste route to Langen. But we skied the resort a little bit beforehand. It was empty. It was very 'blue' I seem to remember but for a foundling off-pister there's a lot of untouched "near piste" to gain confidence.

I have only skied the pistes and "near piste" over at Ichgl and the pistes are very cruisy.

But sometimes the snow falls in Ichgl when it is not falling in St Anton (Stanton will know for sure but I believe it depends where the front is coming from)

Yuo can do Sonnenkopf (included on St Anton liftpass) as another trip out from St Anton. get up early ski over ot Stuben, take the ski bus from outside Post Hotel . Like Boothy says there is an excellent Off-Piste (2 variants) run back to Langen (this is only worth doing in mid season). It also a nice little resort, the on hill restaurants are cheaper.

The Arlberg is a Lift served Off-Piste mecca Very Happy

This should give you an idea

that's the one .. definitely worth a trip over there for a day .. particuarly when it's busy in the main resort as very few people know it's there.

Telski,
in addition to Stanton's mail re Ischgl trip, looks like there is another train leaving shortly after 8am, that will get you to Landeck in abt 20 mins, and it is then another 20-25 mins by taxi to Ischgl.

Check on www.oebb.at (Austrian railways).

The train will cost peanuts. Taxi is abt Euro 50 (i don't know whether it is per head, I was on my own).

Have a good time!
