 Poster: A snowHead
|
I'm looking at the snow reports and can't decide where to go. I'm travelling with someone requiring access to blue slopes.
Cervinia - still looking good but I don't know what happens on Monday 4th May
Stubai - open until mid May and I have never been there (always tempted)
Sierra Nevada - not looking great but at least lots of cheap flights and if the weather is bad it's not too far to the seaside. I've always wanted to try it but don't want to travel with all the equipment for 3 days and not touch snow if they close it due to weather.
Any other recommendations?

What’s Scandinavian like these times? Plenty of blue runs.

Trysil and Levi are frequently mentioned here. I don’t know about them.
I couldn’t recommend Sierra Nevada for anyone coming from UK specifically for a few days skiing, too unreliable.

Cervinia has loads of blues until the 3rd at least. You could then ski zermatt at least on the 4th, even if nothing remains open on italian side?
Otherwise I would think one of the austrian or scandinavian resorts, just look at their piste maps and see which is most suitable, or check the most convenient flights
This a good resource for how much is open but I would check with the resorts directly before booking

Sölden is where I have been at season close several times. The glaciers there have been reliable. Check the actual conditions & closing party details & dates

Thanks everyone. I'm very undecided. Stubai will keep only a few runs open on Monday and some of them are T-bars which I want to avoid. I don't kow the big French resorts like tignes so not sure whether to test it at this time of year. I know cervinia well so just having the big main blue run open will keep us busy.

The snow on both the Rettenbachgletscher and the Tiefenbachgletscher was lovely a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately (for me, at the time), there was also a lot of snow being added to them too. It was raining below about 2500m but that was no problem on the glaciers. You can (I think) just ignore the T-bars and ski the gondolas (but you may have to do a magic carpet as penance). Several blues, a red and two blacks.

Cervinia:
From May 4th to June 2nd 2026 the following will be open:
Runway 6 and runway 46 with return to Plan Maison .
Bontadini chairlift , operating from 9:00 to 14:45 .
Breuil-Cervinia – Plateau Rosà line , with slope 7 up to Cime Bianche Laghi open until 3pm.
Note :
The opening of the Swiss side (glacier up to Trockener Steg and Furggsattel chairlift) will depend on snow conditions. Skiing on the glacier is usually possible during this period.
Sounds like they are backing it for a full month!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
