Long discussed but research consensus now converging on more proximal AMOC collapse. 50 years maybe… of course based on models … but possible -19c London - but actually possibly dry - agriculture? Very different…not golden fields of grain….

But wouldn’t the UK still be an island on the edge of a large ocean, with a maritime climate ?
The world would still be warming so our source air would also be getting warmer, except possibly from the north if artic freezing we’re to take off in the absence of the Gulf Stream.
Would we not just change to a cooler and drier climate like say Vancouver Island, which is also on a west coast but adjacent to a cool rather than warm sea ?
Presumably we would get a lot less supersaturated Atlantic air so it may be sunnier and drier, but perhaps with more convection rainfall. We might get more snow from the east if our prevailing wind is less likely to come from the west so snow might last longer because we might expect fewer ‘hairdryer’ days.

The UK is surprisingly far north.
Toronto (for example) on the same latitude as Milan.
Scotland on similar latitude to Hudson bay.
If the gulf stream shut down, and westerly winds abated, then UK would get much colder.

@Haggis_Trap, exactly…
England is north of Nova Scotia - in fact close to Hudson Bay, as you say. Nova Scotia is not known for its balmy winters Dec-Feb av low minus 7, av high 1deg.
Brrrrr.

With sea levels 125m lower, that’ll give us a direct drive from Brighton to the new huge new ice cap over The Alps.
What’s not to like.

@Snow&skifan, why would sea levels be lower? They'd be higher, due to increased temperatures over the world as a whole.

The Fens could be the base for international ice skating marathons.
A lot of old housing could be rebuilt to better insulation standards.

Nova Scotia is cold because it has a large landmass to its north and west which provide a route for cold interior air. We would still have the Atlantic and North Sea around us to moderate our temperatures and the world would still be warming ?

@Peter S, I agree. The prevailing winds would still be westerly as that's due to the rotation of the earth, not the Gulf stream.
The North Atlantic would be cooler, so less evaporation and probably less rainfall. Winters will be a lot colder, and probably longer as we lose the current warming effect of the GS.
What is unknown is how far south the warm currents might move. They would still circulate up to the Gulf, and some of the West Coast of the USA, but then presumably turn south again, which may well change rainfall patterns in Iberia and North Africa.
Also, losing the cooling effect may lead to those waters getting even warmer, thus increasing precipitation in some areas.
Would the loss of the warmer waters circulating North have an effect on currents and ice in the Arctic?
If the waters stay cooler, winter ice may melt slower, remain longer and possibly reverse some of the current trend?

Entirely true.
However without gulf stream UK would experience much more easterly weather (which is colder and more continental). At present wind arrives from East ~10% of the time. One reason Norway is much colder than UK isn't just latitude but the fact it's also further east and less exposed to gulf stream.

Specifically I dropped into the steep bit over the A27 by the bridge near where tesco holmbush is
It was shite. But i felt like a legend at the time lol
Then I left the uk and made a life in proper mountains and rode snowboards with actual edges.

Speaking of which, @Weathercam - were you not suitably terrified of unleashing the White Death going off-piste like that so close to the site of the Lewes Avalanche??
