kuwait_ian, On Ryanair/St Etienne.... it's not ideal - quite a few extra miles - but it's one of my favourites. There's no restaurant, just a little bar. It's tiny - you park 10 yards away from the entrance, walk through the door and you're in a small glass-sided hall where you can watch the flights (all 3 per day - or at least, that's how busy it seems!) arrive and depart, the passengers filing on and off in front of you. I've always been lucky, departures have been more or less on time. The only problems I've had have been at the Stansted end - arrived 20 mins early on a couple of occasions, but had to wait nearly an hour for my luggage!

the almost universal Sat - Sat accommodation bookings system is the major obstacle to your 10 day hol suggestion

but for the club hotels or chalets where an operator takes the whole place that need not apply. Since it did exist once, I assume it just died due to lack of demand. I loved them. If you had an iffy day health or weather wise, you could miss out on the slopes or visit a nearby town and still get a deal of skiing done. |
You're probably right, fewer people being able to take time off from mid-week, the system has been homogenised.

Thanks in part to the British invasion, you can now get the real thing pretty much anywhere!

Slightly smaller than London City, then.

kuwait_ian, The 10 day sliding would be a bit much for me but i'd give it a bloody good go!!!!
My recent trips have been DIY go thursday eve to tuesday eve, quite airports and transfers are a great experience! You also get very quiet slopes on Saturdays! It can be a bit difficult to find rooms available - it invovles a few e-mails and phone calls (get a list of all hotels from the tourist info places), but it can be done and ususally you get a very good price.........especially if you make contact early and say to them "well if you don't fill it by x i'll take it off your hands). Booking early they are a little wary of possibly only filling a room for 5 days instead of 10. If you book the flight you can always choose your resort at a later date or wait for snow conditions. I've even known people just to turn up in resorts without a hotel and get somewhere to stay very easily - not that i could do that though!
