Who else has a late season trip coming soon?
We're back to La Plagne in a week, staying in Aime 2000/2100. we've got ESF lessons for the week, which I'm looking forward to - will be good to be on the mountain with a bit of a larger group of boarders, and almost certainly some who'll be beeter than me, so hoping, and looking forward to a bit of extra drive to try new things. Always easy to "cruise" when with the usual gang. Plus it'll be forst time on the snow for a whole new set up of kit!
Anyone else away for Easter?

Not Easter for me, but I have Greenland and Iceland lined up late season. Thought I'd better get the former in before anyone invades it.
I won't be surprised if I end up riding with only skiers then, but it can be fun challenging their preconceptions.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

How 'late' can you do Greenland and Iceland phil? Not somewhere I've ever looked at tbh.

Yes, us. Heading back to Les Arcs Easter weekend. We're going by train, so will overnight in Paris on Good Friday. I'm then on the first train down to Bourg with just my kit. Funicular up to 1600 and ready to go when my half day pass activates at 1230. Husband and kids (and cases) will follow on a train at a more reasonable hour and arrive at teatime.
Taking my brother and his family with us for their first ever ski trip, though they are coming by car.
All but my husband and I will be in lessons first thing, and he likes to sleep in, so my mornings will be my own to bomb about wherever takes my fancy, then afternoons will be much more leisurely. Husband is a cruisey blue skier, and the rest are newbies (but have had lesson in preparation so aren't complete beginners), so gentle runs and lots of hot chocolate breaks will be the order of the day. My neice is 4, so I suspect there will be afternoons where we lose her plus at least one parent, and we acquire my 10 year old nephew.
My first time taking my own skis this year, which I'm very excited about. I want some new poles, but I'm going to shop in resort for them as nothing online has taken my fancy.

I've ridden in Iceland in May and June multiple times. Greenland, I'm told, works slightly earlier. The main reason to go to Iceland, for me at least, is that the season there runs late. It's not cheap and doesn't have the best snow, except in May/June when it's the only place. I'm using helicopters, but there's a lot of "touring" in Iceland at least, and the mountains there look good for that. Typically it's spring conditions, long day length, very low slide risk, some steeps and slough management if you want.
A dirty brown natural quarter pipe. Horrible snow... but good for snowboards.
Icelandic geology.
Riding spring snow down to the sea.

I bought some "Dope" pants to try there. Something different from the boring black pants everyone else churns out, at least.

Wow, those Iceland shots are amazing - not sure I'd realised the shape of the place!

My first snow clothing was a mid blue jacket and black trousers - very hard to spot in a busy piste. I've been in canary yellow trousers ever since, and my wife always has something super bright too. Makes life much easier, and probably a bit safer too.

Dark colours are bad for photography too - black worst of all.

The geology seems to be very varied, to me. The Troll mountains are all that kind of shape, but driving there from Reykjavik you see a lot of different shaped stuff. The snow quality is very weather dependent. It can easily be rained on top-to-bottom. The mountains are pretty but small - sea level to 1,300m or so.
Here's a shot of the Troll Peninsular from the "gold coast" near Grenivík, looking across at Dalvík. There were whales in that fjord which we'd flown over to get here. You can see the snow is very much late season. There's a cliff at the bottom of this run so you can't get to the beach, but there are other places you can easily do that. Except generally the snow gets worse the lower down you go, so you might not want to do that more than once.

I should get some touring in from Mid April onwards, that's about the time of year that enough snow starts to come out of storms. I'm up a mountain full time from early April too, so it's easy to grab the opportunity when it happens.

Off to Les Coches in Paradiski too, with the boy and 4 mates on Friday. Two skiers but we'll tolerate them.
@BigSouthernJesse, if you want some riders for company when you're not ESFfing it, PM me.

Hey @Richard_Sideways, thank you, that's kind, I may drop you a line.
We've stayed in Les coches the last couple of Decembers, definitely a great spot to make the most of Paradiski! Enjoy
P.S. If you see a v tall, 40+ boarder in bright yellow trousers trying to get their carving to work, that'll probably be me!

Taking a day's leave either side of Easter to be snowboarding 2-7th April based in Briancon. We have a guide booked for splitboarding on the Saturday and Sunday. There has been so much snow in that corner of the Alps this year so that even if there isn't a "janvril" dump, the spring snow should be excellent

It’s pretty good in Montgenevre at the moment. Some sun affected pow today, with occasional perfect patches in the shade in the trees. Some signs of a thinning snowpack lower down.

Straight from there to Austria for more Guide exams.
Few days at home.
