Smooth travels for everyone heading home tomorrow (or indeed out). Just packed the car and tidying apartment to make sure we don’t forget owt - thankfully cleaning is included. An early start in morning which will hopefully see us home around 7pm UK time.

Living in East Kent it's only 45 minutes from the tunnel for me. However the most annoying part of the whole 600 mile plus journey is when coming off the train. It's a mile and a half in completely the wrong direction before taking the first exit and going all the way back again along the A20. Such a pain!

You too @Boris! Early start for us too. Our journey tomorrow consists of bus > train > train > Eurostar > train > taxi… should be home at about 10pm, all being well

Not much less for us. The killer is the m20/m25/m11 and A14, especially Dartford Crossing to M11. It is usually relatively trouble-free once we are on the A1.

Sounds like the same route, TBF we normally travel at weekends and split it over two days, staying in Ashford, so that part of the trip is early on Sunday morning and fairly quiet.
Note to self, remember the Uk is 70mph

Also am I the only person that thinks the exit from the tunnel onto the motorway is like whacky races, everyone seems determined to get to 80mph asap

Heading back today.
I'm just about to pack our cases. Taxi is picking us up at 0900, and we're on the direct train to Paris at 0948. We will overnight there.
Family Duck is heading off at a similar time and driving straight through to Paris, where the Ducklings still have no idea that they are going to Disney for the next two days. They're in an offsite Disney hotel, so they plan on telling the kids when they're on the shuttle to the park tomorrow morning.

@Owlette, What a nice surprise for the little ones!
Safe journeys all. Am cleaning the property this final morning prior to departure while promising myself yet again that next time I’ll pick somewhere with cleaning included.

@HerecomesCarol, in France cleaning is often offered as an "extra" - always worth asking. It is a chore at the end of a holiday and it's always difficult to know how much you're supposed to do. Bathrooms are easy, but what about cutlery drawers or ovens which were not spotless to start with?

@Origen, thank you, I will definitely ask next time if cleaning can be added on at additional cost. Getting the marigolds, hoover and mop out in the final hours in resort has not been the ideal note to end on, though admittedly the cleaning is not difficult in itself.

Apart from kitchen corner, cleaning was included in our apartment. Phew.
Left at 4:30am and stopped for breakfast north of Lyon. Just refuelled at Troyes and now on the long drag up to Calais. Going to be an hour earlier than our planned check in - hoping the Eurotunnel gods smile on us.

@Origen, @Hells Bells, wanted to get a jump on the traffic and past Lyon. If all goes well will be home late afternoon - I’d rather start early and get it done, don’t mind early starts.
Rest of car was sound asleep mind

On board the train to Paris. Once again managed to book a direct one, so it's a relief to know the bags are stowed and there's nothing to do but sit back and relax. Taxi dropped us off just down a short hill from the station and said he could no longer go to the entrance or he will be fined by the police. Plenty of taxis in the rank though, anyone know what that's about?
Train was fairly empty between Bourg and Moutiers, when the carriage completely filled. All folk from Val Thorens judging by the hoodies many were wearing (no judgement, my Folie Douce Les Arcs one is in the rack above my head). Currently sitting at Albertville.
Family Duck headed off at the same time as us. They absolutely loved their first ski trip and have caught the bug.

We left Lanslebourg at a respectable 8 o’clock. Tried to top up at the Total in St Michel but they’re out of diesel so we went to the supermarket nearby where it was 2.44! Fortunately we only needed 1/4 tank and we can get back to the UK. We did see the little Aixam van that we saw there last year. The driver is still wearing his wide-brimmed hat. Nearly all the cars fleeing the Maurienne were Belgian with the odd Brit. The French were very much in the minority. It was a clear run to Chambery taking 2 hours but the queues started up the long drag towards Lyon until it was back down to 2 lanes when the traffic speeded up considerably.

@Origen, An extra hour lying there thinking things over and thinking we should be going
4am alarm works for me, went to bed just after 10 so reasonable rest. Extra hour or two there is wasted travel time.
I k ow some people prefer a more leisurely trip home and others ski then driver overnight.

We left Lanslebourg on the 7:55 bus, got the train from Modane to Chambéry and currently wearing our way towards Paris, albeit slowly. Not allowing myself to get twitchy about our Eurostar connection yet…
Train is very busy, lots of British families heading home from skiing in our carriage.

Don’t you just hate the drivers who use a T lane but without a transponder! Big bouchon after Lyon at the peage for the viaduct. There didn’t seem to be a T lane for trucks so we headed left. Then sat for, what felt like, 5 mins while someone did battle with the barrier. People were reversing and switching to another lane. Then a green light and we all started rolling through. Up until the car in front which cleary didn’t have a doofer as the woman started waving a credit card about. The car was Belgian with a registration starting I-WAX. Tw@t!

With 2 of us working at it it takes 3 hours to pack up and clean the apartment. We start at 7 and hope to be on the road at 10 aiming for a 21:30 crossing. That includes putting away all cleaning material. That makes me wonder what do people who rent apartments do about: kitchen, bathroom, glass cleaners and indeed bleach for the toilet. I find cleaning the glass the hardest: shower screen, mirrors, windows and the coffee table.

@johnE, for the first time we had an all-in cleaning package where we basically had to bag up the rubbish and drop the empty beer bottles in the recycling, everything else was taken care of. I felt a bit awkward leaving normal cleaning tasks to someone else when I’m so used to do them in an apartment.
Mind you, I did sweep the balcony because I’d waxed my snowboard mid-stay and the entire balcony was covered in scraping ms

Surely you come off at the turn for Folkestone & Hythe, not go to on to M20 and u-turn at J11?
Its 2 minutes to J12 if you are heading Dover way, or straight over the roundabout along the Elham Valley.

Just negotiated the junction near Troyes with ease - there’s little congestion now.
Unlike my nose and throat which are suffering pollen overload from the masses of ripening rape combined with the sultry weather. Achoooo!

Haha! Just seen this, we arrived at twenty to 3 so I don’t think so. Slight disruption to the planned route across Paris to the Gare du Nord thanks to engineering works but we made it in time for the Eurostar at ten past 4.
