It's saying that females are less likely to be P155ed off if they are worse skiers than their male other halves than would be the case if the (ski) boot was on the other foot!

I've never heard of anyone doing that or even wanting to until @Specialman mentioned it. I have skied with lots and lots of people over the years and the only time I've come across anyone having a non ski day on a short, ie 7 days or less holiday, is when all the lifts were closed. |
I dont take a whole day break, but I will finish early afternoon & chill out in the hotel spa a couple of times.

Me too, but it's a reminder that not everyone's looking at any of this in precisely the same way.
Maybe it correlates with how much time/ money is available.
If you've lots of both, the daily costs of hanging around in a hotel whilst losing the opportunity cost of working aren't a factor.
I'd say the demographic here swings old, so lots of people are likely to take a more... relaxed... perspective than anyone to whom not working is a direct cost...

Generally I will have one day where I finish early - mid afternoon to have a break, rest my knees and walk around town.

Are you in Lech by any chance? We saw a somewhat unhappy couple with differing skiing abilities shouting at each other earlier today. Well, one was shouting while the other was patronising. It made me think of this thread!

@Jonny996, may have a point. I've noticed that Thursdays tend to be the quietest day of the week and that the slopes are starting to get quiet around 16:00.
I've also calculated how long I actually ski. My family and I are not morning people so we tend to be heading out 9:30 to 10:00 and actually get off the slopes at 17:00 to 17:30. We have one stop during the day for lunch which takes 30 to 60 minutes but if we are late out then this will be skipped. So let's say 6 and a half hours out on the slopes. Half of that is sitting on lifts or in queues. so now down to 3 and a quarter hours. Of that time half is spent panting at the side of the piste or waiting for other people so lets say at best 2 hours a day skiing.
Gulp.

30 years ago I spent the day lapping the White Lady (Cairngorm) in the rain. I wouldn't possibly consider that now (in my 70s). Very poor light, whiteout, heavy snow, I don't ski. I'm a bluebird cruiser ideally. But mrsbillb skis very little now so I'll happily take half a day off and go walking. Don't generally do first lifts but sometimes stay out late so you get the home run to yourself, ahead of the patrol. To each his own......

Injuries have cost me about 5 days plus a whole holiday (broken collar bone 5 weeks before). Apart from that, first lift (if everyone would just hurry up?) to last every day. The only notable exception was a hangover in about 1991 that was so bad that I gave up before lunch.

I don't ski, as i only know how to snowboard - my wife does a bit but generally doesn't like it. Fear of falling, (off cliffs) and other not so rational thoughts interfere with any enjoyment she gets from it. She doesn't like steep slopes, or busy ones, doesn't like going fast, or feeling in any way out of control. Her first week of skiing was a week of private lessons so she had a really good foundation / start, but she is just not into it. The three kids love snow holidays, and i really enjoy boarding. This year we all went on a family ski holiday, but wife did not ski. She did a good bit of walking, loves the outdoors, the snowy vistas, and luckily is happy in her own company and sitting and reading a lot. So it worked out OK, but if i had pushed for her to ski it would have been a disaster. She may come back to it in time but for the moment its me and the kids or all of us with wife not skiing. Some people just don't like it.

When I'm on a ski holiday with my wife the routine is that I go out for 1st lift and ski as much as I can for an hour. My wife has a second pot of tea then joins me on the mountain, by which point I'm happy to take a more leisurely approach and we can happily ski together. At about 3pm she decides she's had enough for the day and heads down and I stay out for a few more fast runs until the lifts start to close for the day or my legs can't take any more. Works well for us!

We do similar, when it's just the two of us. We both start early, if not exactly first lift. Then there's a coffee stop at 11ish, where I will have a quick espresso then ski on my own for 20 minutes or so. After lunch, we head back to the resort for 2pm or a bit later. Then I ski alone until the end of the day, while she goes for a swim or a nap, depending on how challenging the slopes were. Often, I will scout the next day's skiing.

On no account be the instigator of raising this issue. It will result in an argument. Wait for the issue to be raised, and listen. Show you are listening, by summarising. Then wait for her solution, she does not want you to fix the problem she just wants you to listen.
NEVER share your concerns. She has not asked for your problems, she wants you to listen to her problems.
